Since the MN DNR gave us this into yesterday I thought I would post this info.

WHERE THE G&F FUND COMES FROM:

    27% Hunting Licenses and Stamps
    22% Fishing Licenses
    16% Federal Grant Fisheries (D-J)
    12% Lottery Sales Taxes
    11% Federal Grant Wildlife (P-R)
    06% Sports Licenses
03% License Issuing and Application Fees
    01% Investment Income
    02% Other Income

WHAT THE G&F FUND PAYS FOR:

    34% Fisheries Management
    30% Wildlife Management
    21% Enforcement
    04% Licensing
    04% Ecological Resources
    02% Boat Access
    02% Forrest Management
    01% Land Management
    02% Operations Support and Indirect

Off topic, but still of interest I thought was the “convenience” charge of $3.50 has been removed from purchasing MN licenses on line.

A license now costs the same whether it’s bought on line or purchased at a sporting goods store.

    BK, Thanks.

IMO It is about time the “convience” fee was removed from on line licinse purchases. In my eyes there is less overhead for the online option. No printer or paper is needed on the DNR/Lic adgent’s part. A good move in my eyes, just print a few copies and laminate them or ziplock and put one in truck, boat, tackle box.

On a second note I wonder about the $30 annual fees from the critical habitat Lic Plates MN offers. I just got the angler plate, I wish I knew for sure where this money was truely going. Hoping a portion of this isint going to “Special Intrist” groups if ya know what I mean.

Thanks for the info BK -Mark

Wow, a whole 12%? I thought the whole justification for the lottery in MN in the first place was for outdoors stuff.

That would be 12% of the Game and Fish Funds Revenue Sources…not to be confused with 12% of the lottery proceeds.

Good question Mark..unless that’s under “Sports Licenses. I see what I can find out.

I think the loon should be removed from any lottery marketing.

OK, I’m feeling a bit dense this morning. Just what is the 12%? Is it 12% of what comes “TO” the DNR from the lottery? Or 12% “OF” the gross lottery sales?

To many numbers……….to few brain cells. Help me.

12% of the DNR’s operating budget comes from the lottery.

As far as I know that could mean 100% of the lottery proceeds are going to the DNR or it could mean that less than 1% of the proceeds are going to the DNR.

Wish I could go back and see what they were saying when they begged us to approve the lottery. Seems to me it was either a third or a half after expenses were to go to the DNR.

In any event they touted it as millions and millions yearly. Don’t think it’s been anywhere near those numbers right since day one.

I am all for the charge. I am not sure if you are aware of this but the on line licensing is outsourced. Not only that it costs money to run credit and debit cards each swipe or in this case each keystroke.

With this fee removed, who knows whats going to change from the money they are losing for having the online licensing outsourced to another company. They probably removed it to show a loss in funds so they can raise licensing fees.

I wish the 3.50 charge would have stayed! I love being able to print off and store extra copies of my license. In fact id probably pay an extra 5$ just for this option we have.

ahhh….hate to break this to you, but according to the DNR’s website, your data is wrong.

24.7% of the DNR’s current budget is provided from the General Fund – IE: OUR TAX DOLLARS…

    http://files.dnr.state.mn.us/aboutdnr/budget/fy10-11/budget_from.pdf

Who provided you with your information? i would ask for a link to some data before i believe anything else they have to tell you.

like so many of the DNR programs, just a whirlwind of deceipt…

raise the price of Non-Resident hunting and fishing licenses by 50% and see where that gets us first.

i’ll have to pull up some more data on it, but i believe that the lottery proceeds go into the Environment and Natural Resources Trust Fund, which does have an annual cap on spending. and what i have to verify is that the only way those dollars are spent, is as a “match” to private dollars contributed to the DNR, much the same way the License Plate dollars are handled.

Bottom line – there is so much corruption and bad spending going on in our DNR, anyone who supports any additional fees or tax increases to go to them, before they balance their budget, is out of their dang mind!

You’ll have to wait until I can scan it tonight.

It was a hand out. Interesting that they would be different.

One quick look explains it Phigs.

The numbers I posted are the Game and Fish Fund which is only a portion of the DNR.

You certainly seem to be quite the DNR hater don’t you.

Is it everyone in the government or just the dnr?

i don’t “hate” the DNR, i just would like to see some accountability, and balancing of their books, so they can spend the money on what it is supposed to be spent on – our outdoors.

the government as a whole? i dislike a lot of what is going on right now, but i do not want to get into a political debate on here, i know James tries to keep this site “Left & Right Free”.

If only that were the case of competitor sites too. Left and Right Free.

Seems like whatever side you are on there is a government stating the other side is in the wrong. Why cant we all get a long and enjoy our roots.

They’re still looking for people for the Budget Oversight Committees.
