I got a gift certificate for bass pro and was wanting rod holders for boat to use trolling with planer boards. Can someone tell me what they think of the attwood pro series. they look like they would be sturdy and easy to adjust. thanks for any info.

They look very similar to my Scottys. They should work well for trolling and planer boards. I know guys using these for dipsie divers too, but that is a bit more than I would trust. You should be happy with them I would wadger. Just make sure the base can be mounted on your gunwale, side wall or I belive they make a rail mount too. I also like the extension for them, just makes it easier to tend the lines being highter up. –Mark

gunwale mounted holders need to be reinforced below to be solid. the ones that go THRU the gunwale are the best.

Just my opinion. The Attwood rod holders are junk. Go with ANY other brand out there.

am no expert on rod holders either–but I do have a few on my downrigging boat—and I love the Lock-tite brand and Anglers Pal–swivel type–I got a few of both and love em!

I use “Fish On” they are easy in and out as well as to swivel. I wish I would have mounted then towards the interior side as they don’t have the elevation as others. The others that I’ve been with in friends boats seem a pain to swivel and move imho.

I have had the same sets of Attwoods on my boat for years and they have held up great, the only thing I do not like about the Attwoods is I can not add extensions to them. I did buy two of the Scottys to replace the set I have in the back of the boat, still need to install them yet. If I had it to do over again I would have went with the Scottys in the fist place.
