I need a new pair of boots. I’m just looking for other peoples info. on a good pair for ice fishing/hunting. Waterproof is a must and light weight. I have owned 4 pairs of Rocky’s but they just don’t hold up. I would probably go with 1,000 grams or higher. Thanks in advance for any input.

I’m kind of in the same situation you are. I bought a pair of LaCrosse Alpha 1000 gram boots and loved them but they just did not hold up – they are all cracked up on the outside after 2-3 seasons. Maybe I am expecting too much out of a pair of boots but I would think a $150 pair should last more than 2 full seasons.

Anyone try the Arctic Muck Boots? I know some guys that swear the Muck boots are the way to go but I don’t know anyone who has the Arctic model.

I swear by my Lacrosse Ice Kings. Warmest boot I’ve ever had and look like new after 5 years. Not the lightest boot out there though.

Irish Setter is the last brand I will buy. I had my first pair in College in 03′ and just retired them last winter. They were still water proof but too much tread was gone from roofing and clearing snow from newer agressive snowmobile rails. I bought a the deer tracker 1000 gram last year, love them and the Gunflint 200 gram this year for the warmer days. Love them all so far, Irish Setter lifer here. Also they come in a wide variety of widths which really helps with the comfort factor. – Mark

The military boots are heavy, they do work but if you get the white Mickey Mouse boots they are heavy. Your feet will sweat in them if your working hard wearing them, but you dont get cold…

I dont know the model or anything but I use the knee high rubber boots (lacrosse). They come in 1000 grams. Great for hunting, rubber carries no smell. Great for slush or deep snow or drilling holes. The drawback is theyre not the greatest for a 38 mile hike when hunting. Mine are loose so if you sized them better you may be better off than me. I use them for everything.

for ice fishing cant go wrong with bunny boots the are waterproof and the insulation is sealed so it cant get wet they are a bit heavy. Love mine for on stand when temp dips down just take your time getting there. And get socks the wick away moisture.

Yep Mickeys are the way to go I have never worn anything warmer and have had many different boots. Your feet will sweat , but there are good socks for that.

I love my Muck boots. Just got my second pair. I wear them every day on the farm + ice fishing and some hunting. I have feet that usually get cold and with these boots and a pair of merino wool socks there is no problem. I have a pair of black mickeys that I have had for years and I like them but the Mucks are much more comfortable, lighter and I like the extra hight. My first pair is still usable after 2.5 years but they do take on a little moisture which is pretty good. Usually get 1 year out of a pair of winter work boots.

I wore Mickeys for years… until I got the Baffin Arctic series. Super warm and super light. Can walk around all day feeling like walking on pillows, never get wet and never get cold. They might be a little bit too warm for hunting. I picked up a pair of Irish Setters at fleet farm (on sale after christmas) for hunting. So far, pretty warm. Don’t know if I could sit on ice all day with them as I can the Baffins… but if I am moving constantly (hole hopping), I think they should do the trick too. But Baffins would be my main for ice fishing.

I have had two pairs of the regular muck boots and wear them everyday, love them. I bought a pair of artic muck boots last year and was disapointed. They are very warm but the outer shell isn’t as durable as the regular and have torn them in a few spots from general wear. I wouldn’t buy a second pair of the artic ones for that reason. Good luck with your decesion.

I still love my mukluks, and camuks, however, they aren’t good for drilling holes/slush. My feet get wet in them, the baffins feel just as comfortable and just as light.

They were fine. Actually they performed better than I expected. I wonder what they would’ve done if I wouldn’t have forget them in the truck.

I have a pair of mucks. They are great but wore just as fast as any other boot I’ve tried (lacrosse, cabelas, bass pro). I got about a year and a half out of them.
