Hate to complain on my first post but what is the deal with Marcums service. I have called and emailed them many times the last three weeks and not one request for service has been returned regarding my LX5 that died after only ten uses. Anyone know how to get these guys to stand behind their products please post the answer.

Marcum Service

I had similar problems last year with my LX-5 that was bad right out of the box. When I finally did get a response and sent the unit in, the service was done quickly and I had the unit back in less than two weeks. Took me longer to get a response out of them to get service than it did to get the service done.
December 20, 2010 at 8:10 pm #918759Click on link above, my dad sent his LX-5 in on Monday for some troubleshooting issues and had it back on Thurs of the same week, they are dedicated to get the unit back to you. So if you have time fill out online get your RA number.
December 20, 2010 at 8:21 pm #918766I think they just get overwhelmed this time of year, they repaired my lx3 last year. they did great work, communications were limited but they did get it fixed.
December 20, 2010 at 8:52 pm #918781Thanks Calvin, I used that link at least half a dozen times in last three weeks, not one reply.
December 20, 2010 at 11:54 pm #918836That’s why I will not sell my FL-8. If my lx-3 breaks (again) I won’t be stuck without a flasher.
When my lx-3 broke the last time,it was out of warrantee. I sent it in – along with a check – and got it back quickly.
It stopped working within 2 weeks. I called Marcum the moment I got home and gave someone there an irate earfull. They put a new unit into the mail that day. When the new unit arrived I put the broken one into the box and mailed it back.
So no complaints from me,except maybe that my FL-8 was used summer and winter for almost a decade before the brushes wore out. It’s bulletproof. In fact,it had been completely submerged several times for over an hour with no damage.
December 21, 2010 at 3:11 am #918871I’ve called several times and sent couple of emails a tech callled me but missed the call he left voicemail told me to keep callin and sending emails said they have been swamped I’ve been having battery and charger issuues with my Lx-5
December 21, 2010 at 11:13 am #918900I can understand swamped but not rotten service. I am a business owner and if I had these problems I would hire more help and turn problems into profit by taking care of customers. Customers are to hard to come by in this day and age so I would NEVER drive them away with poor service. The worst part is I am considering the new 825 camera they make but if they will not stand beside their products I am going with Vexilar and the LX5 is going on YouTube as I send it to its final resting place. One more day of no call backs or no emails and I start working on the grave marker.
December 21, 2010 at 1:18 pm #918918I can tell that it really is bothering you, that your first posts are so negative…… as you stated….
Seems every year, somebody has to join, complain about a site sponsor item and then they disappear…..it’s almost like a marketing strategy of “The other side” well see, huh King ?
There I said it……somebody had to…
December 21, 2010 at 1:27 pm #918921Well not that it’s much of a defense, but they been bought and sold a couple times in the past years. I’m not sure it’s much different for the major companies either, try calling Lowrance in spring, granted they will eventually get to you.
I personally wouldn’t worry about them standing behind the product, thus far I haven’t seen that myself, even with the transitions they’ve went through in the past couple years.
Yeah I agree it sucks to be in your spot, but I don’t believe when they get to you they’ll do a good job taking care of you, at least they did for me.
December 21, 2010 at 4:21 pm #918987Hi Big G,
You are right and wrong about me. I have followed this board for years, even before it was IDO, and enjoy it very much. Never opened an account because my darn businesses keep me too blasted busy. IDO has been my go to spot to get my fix of Midwest outdoors and the reason I posted now is because I knew there was no better place to oil a squeaky wheel and get great advice at the same time.
I am happy to report Marcum called me minutes ago and my unit will be in their hands tomorrow morning. They were great on the phone and I am certain now that we have connected service will be excellent. Can’t wait to get that good target separation again.
I also want to thank those of you who sent me private messages with assistance, from one fellow angler to you others, Tight Lines!
FYI, quick fish report, fished Pool 6 backwaters Sunday AM for four hours, fished a weed break in 6.5 feet that dropped into 12 feet within 15 foot distance. Found fish along weed edge in 6.5 and in the 12 foot stuff. Caught many fish but to get the 8 inch and better fish ended up using three worms,2 T-Boned with a single tail, on a 1/64 plain lead head jig, drop as fast as possible to bottom to avoid the little guys, left sit for 10 seconds if they left it alone that long, when they did would trigger a bite with a slow 2 inch lift and pause. Nothing fancy but I left with 14 gills that made a great fish fry for the family last night.
Thanks again for all your help and comments guys and now that I have a real account I will try and post some reports when I get the opportunity.

Yeah, mine does the same thing, I live with it, maybe someday I’ll send it in during summer or something. I know mine has a lot of hours on it, probably not as many as others of the same vintage.
Neither of my LX3’s have the TC, honestly even though it’s really nice, I don’t think I’d pay extra to get it on my units.
I do need a couple new batteries though.
