I mean likes someones jig or even your own broken off lure. I was fishing with a guide last summer and I caught a slimmer with a green jig in its mouth and the guide said that he got broken off the day before in the same area and that was his jig.
What happens to the rapalas we loose on a break off? Anyone find any thing cool?

A couple of Aprils ago just before the Sturgeon Excursion, I hooked into a medium size sturgeon on the Rainy just after the walleye season closed with 4 jigs in it’s mouth. Orange must have been a hot color that year.

Or how about in the fishes belly when cleaning? That picture of the cat with the chicken bone belly last summer was funny!

I caught a smallie last summer that had a 4/0 or 5/0 hook coming out of its rearend. I have no idea how that thing made it through the gut of that fish. I took a pic. I’ll see if I can find it.

Last summer I caught a pike that had a broken top jaw. It was sticking out from its face at a right angle. About a month later, I caught that same fish about 3/4 of a mile away from the first catch and release.

Back about 8 years ago I decided to go to the BWCA for opener bald eagle lake to be exact. Well Saturday I got a couple small pike and eyes when I was cleaning one of the pike I could feel some thing in it’s belly it turned out to be 2 zoom brush hogs on 1/8 oz jigs. The baits had to of been from the fall before and they looked like they had doubled in size.

    Those are all funny

On my honeymoon my wife and I were fishing in canada. She missed a walleye, a few minutes later I landed a nice fish with her leech in it’s mouth. My dad also caught a 20″ largemouth after it ate a nice bluegill that he was trying to land. We got both fish and actually kept the bluefill for dinner.

This summer I caught a tank 30″ pike out of Superior and when I landed it I noticed the fish had spiderwire triple looped through its mouth and gills and into its stomach. When I cleaned it out I found a 30″ leader with half dissolved hook attached to 4 feet of spiderwire, a foot of mono with a swivel and hook, and then to top it off a 12″ cisco, the entire thing! Must of been on a tear there for a while.

I lost a flashlight down a hole last winter. I wonder if there’s a fish with my maglite in it’s gut?

I caught a pike on a crankbait that was still attached to a stringer with 2 living walleyes on maple lake. The stringer was one of those chain ones with metal clips but the chain was only about 6 inches long above the clips must have been a weak link.

Last summer at the weigh-in of a Bass tourney one guy had a bass with a muskrat about half way down its throat. It was a full sized adult muskrat and the bass was not all that Big 9 maybe 4 Lbs. I think the muskrat must have added another Lb.to his total weight. If I remember correctly that additional 1 Lb. got him into the money.

    Great Post!!!!

I haven’t found anything too strang in the mounths..BUT, once I had nice bite while drifting for some walleyes.. Fed some line, just as I was about to set the hook I see a loon pop up about 20 feet from the boat with MY Floater and MInnow sidways in her mouth! I did a quick snap of the rod and it yanked out. Thankfully!

caught a 5-6# northern ice fishing, was wondering what all the line was laying around, started pulling the line and felt some weight, pulled a pretty nice rod and reel from the bottom, looked closely in the pikes mouth and found a jig attached to the line. Rod sure looked familure. Went back to the house and had the bucket of rods setting on the deck, brother walks by and asked where I found his rod! Said he was out the evening before in the fish house, heard something, and looked over just in time to see his rod go down the hole. Guess it was his lucky day!

Great idea for a post. About five years ago we were walleye fishing below the dam in DePere and a friend of mine hooked a sturgeon which isn’t that uncommon over there. Well, he fought this thing for over an hour….huge. We had to go downstream a ways to get it out of the current to even have a chance. Well, finally it gave in and we had it basically beached. When that creature came into the shallows his back looked like a bait rack at Gander. We counted 9 crankbaits attached to its back including ours. Well, as we were about to make a cleaning on free baits, the fish gave a burst and broke off. We just looked at each other and just felt about as dumb as you can imagine in that situation. Not only did we not get any of the free baits she was offering, but we also lost ours in the process. Quite a memory for sure!

Caught a small flathead once down by Mankato a few years back that had about a 10/0 Kahle hook in its mouth. Pulled that hook right out and threw it in the tackle box. Think I still have it!

Caught a northern a few years back on Devils lake with a full complete hot dog in its stomach. I don’t know how he did not get hooked on our quick strike rig from the day before but they sure like the hot dogs:)

I don’t remember anything really unusual. I did get a little smallmouth this year that had a line coming out of his mouth and a hook in it’s gullet. It appeared to have been there for some time. Oddly enough it was caught right after a discussion on here last spring about mortality of fish when leaving the hook and line in them. This guy obviously had no issue maneuvering his food around the hook and down his gullet.

Stomach contents! That is the most exciting part of filleting a fish for me, checking out the stomach contents.

Was catfishing on the Pecatonica last summer. Had a line break while using stink bait. About a hour later caught a cat about 150 yards down stream. Had my broken off catfish worm in it’s mouth.

Just out of college, prior to having a boat, a friend and I were float tubing in a small pond. Caught a crappie with a small ice fishing jig in it’s mouth, line still attached. Pulled on the line and landed an ice fishing rod.
