    Dear, UofM President Bruinicks and Athletic Director Maturi;
We, the taxpayers of MN, got you a nice new football stadium and now when we need to use it you can’t even be bothered to ask one of your building maintenance guys to go turn on the damn toilets?

This might have something to do with it…

Gophers need answer from Vikings by Tuesday
    December 13, 2010 4:33 PM | 1 Comment
The Minneapolis Star Tribune reports: University of Minnesota officials say they need to know by Tuesday if the Vikings are going to play next Monday’s game against the Bears at TCF Bank Stadium, in order to get the stadium operational.

TCF Bank Stadium was winterized at the end of the Gophers season. In addition to clearing all the snow, which would take five or six days, Minnesota official Scott Ellison said water must be turned on in concession stands and throughout the facility.

“The entire concourse, all the bathrooms and all the concession stands, have been treated for the winter,” Ellison added. “The stadium was designed for your typical (college) game in November. The average temperature in November is mid-30s, not what we’re seeing today.”

    Exactly what I’m saying
FIVE or SIX days to remove snow and turn on the water?
C’mon Bruinincks and Maturi, get your butts out of those big leather desk chairs . . . anyone else could accomplish this task in less than 36 hours easily.

If it REALLY takes you and your crew five or six days to do THAT job,
maybe you should take the next five or six days to clean out your desk.

There are other things too. Goal posts need to be put back in, hash marks are different for college and pros, lighting due to Monday Night game, extra camera placings for Monday night, possible other NFL requirements that NCAA might not have. Think of getting you boat ready only multiplied 1000’s of times.

Yup, all the more reason THEY NEED TO QUIT MAKING EXCUSES AND GET THEIR ASSES IN GEAR.
When we shell out hundreds of millions of dollars for a state of the art facility PLUS pay these clowns what we do . . . we ought to expect performance and results, not excuses.

If your boss said “it’s urgent, have it ready in 36 hours”; would you get away with giving a bunch of whiny excuses instead of 110% effort?

I’m not saying it shouldn’t be able to be done, but the ??? were what needs to be done. I just threw out a few things I heard and read.

It should have ALREADY been done.
They knew at 7:00 Sunday morning that it needed to be done; it should have been ready for the game at 7:00 tonight.
The difference between a college football field and a pro football field ain’t near as big as the difference between a baseball field and a football field. We’ve seen the dome switched between those two configurations in less than 24 hours.

PS I’ve no quarrel with you providing a few facts Whiskey. It’s Bruininks, Maturi and Ellison who I think need to pull their heads out and realize where their bread is buttered from.

Will they sell beer to all or just to the people in the suites?

If I didn’t have a work trip out of town, I’d go. Outdoors vs. the Bears would be the only way to get me to watch the Queens now.

Bring your small scoop shovel. It won’t be easy shoveling around 50,000 seats.

I’ve done my part every day for the last 25 years. I’ve earned all my income in this state and paid my “fair share” to this state.
I suspect you have too. Those who provide the payment have the right to expect the service. When inadequate service is provided, the payer(s) should be upset. Have we paid steakhouse prices for McDonalds level service so often that we now just accept it as the norm.

Yup, a significant portion of the income I earned in this state was from doing snow removal. Anyone who’s done it for a living knows how to do this. You don’t have to shovel between/around the seats. You get the big amounts out from where you can with snow blowers and scoop shovels, then when the only snow left is in the little hard to reach areas you come in with leaf blowers. It works, I’ve done it.

There’s ways to do this. The officials at the U either need to get creative or get some advice from people who actually do such a thing for a living. I would bet the stadium crew from Green Bay might be able to provide all the consultation needed.

I commend your rage towards to U. However don’t you think taking the state to task over poor roads, wasted education dollars, ect would be a tad bit more productive then a football game nobody would have gone to anyway? Where would the U have profited to pull off this stadium transformation? Concessions? Majority would have gone to the Vikings. Ticket revenue? All would have gone to the Vikings. TV revenue? All would have gone to the Vikings. Taxes? State will collect whether the game was played in Detroit or Minneapolis.

If ya wanna be mad at somebody. Be mad at the Vikings. They were the ones who opposed a shared stadium with the Gophers.

It looks like Mondays game may be played at TCF so you still have time to get a ticket.

Even if they could’ve gotten the stadium ready, what do you propose they do with the 14,000 ticket holders that wouldn’t fit into TCF Stadium.

They couldn’t draw 50,000 to the old Met during the glory days of the 70’s.

They couldn’t draw 50,000 for Penn State including students in November.

No need to worry about getting 50,000 people to freeze during the middle of the so called blizzard on Sunday to watch a 5-7 (at that time) team.

They may announce a sell out, but there won’t be 50,000 people if the high is under 25 degrees on Monday.

Experience isn’t in Building-Maint/Facilities-Mgmt as much as snow-removal from large fairly enclosed areas. Which is what Mr Ellison claimed would take four or five days; and what I call BS on. During the Halloween blizzard of ’91 a typical account was something akin to a courtyard at a monestary or convent. Either size of a three car garage with entry big enough for a self propelled snowblower OR the size of one-third of a city block with entry large enough for a Bobcat. You can get close to one of those religious statues; but you don’t DARE hit one. (A little more delicate than stadium seating.)

Anyone who’s winterized and then opened up a cabin knows the process for turning on the toilets. Admittedly this is on a MUCH larger scale, but they also have a MUCH larger workforce available. And if the expertise doesn’t exist in Minneapolis, I’m sure it exists in Green Bay. As helpful as the Lions organization was, I suspect the Packer organization would be just as willing to help out during a “time of crisis”.

    Excellent points Mr Hoffies.
Yes, the whole Vikes Stadium situation (both present and future) would probably be much better if the Gophs and Vikes ALREADY shared the TCF Stadium facility.
