Is In-Fisherman magazine about to fold up? I just got my winter edition and it is much smaller than my latest Cabela’s Christmas catalog. What is up with these guys?

At least you got yours, mine hasn’t come yet. I just renewed last week. Hope it’s not money down the toilet like my ESOX money was.
December 11, 2010 at 3:59 am #916144In my opinion Doug Stange is stuck on fishing walleyes and pike with swimbaits and catfish with cut bait he and his staff put totgether the same shows over and over again what can they really write about that is different from the rest of thier magazines they fish virgin waters in the canadien shield and never fish anywhere that isnt a premier spot i learn more from james holst then i could ever learn watching or reading in-fisherman but thats just my opinion i loved watching doug stange on tv for the first ten episodes i watched then i just got tired of watching the same things over and over again maybe holst should just write the magazine for them!

My thoughts exactly…in his spare time right?
December 11, 2010 at 4:15 am #916147well i think that james is probably a great guy i know he isn’t superman maybe ido should just make a magazine and force in-fisherman out. I just know that what i see of the ido shows they work for fish and its really a representation of the great fishery in minnesota and strategy involved to catch fish is atually seen unlike in-fisherman. being an angler i like to see the struggles that people have and overcome throughout the show this is what makes ido the best
December 11, 2010 at 4:18 am #916148Well the first situation was that Stange HAD to be a part of every article..no matter who wrote it. to the point where HE put off the whole staff..
Suddenly Doug Stange invented In-Fisherman ,and the rest of the staff was “along for the ride”..
Al Lindner, tonight on Facebook, showed me and everyone else the start of his original TV show. and it wasn’t about Canada or Down South, it clearly stated it was Lakes in your back yard.
its funny how that has been lost in the concept.
and continues to be the downfall of the magazine.
Sorta like Fishing Facts.when they wrote about the Milwaukee / Chicago area, they had more then enough business to tide them over.. Suddenly, Pazik must be in charge and change the concept.. and then sell out..
and now what do you have..
here we have a fanstastic forum, for the most part based upon the Mississippi river and the lakes of Wisconsin and Minnesota..
suddenly we have strength.. and suddenly a far superiour fishing forum then anywhere else.. and beating the competiton..
lets hope that no one comes and changes this concept..
December 11, 2010 at 5:06 am #916156I have just a minute before I have to run but Rat, I’ve actually thought about this at one time.
When a mag or show is done in another area, isn’t it in someone else back yard? Depending on the area aired or distributed of course.
December 11, 2010 at 5:19 am #916159while this is true. when you broadcast in the united states and all of you shows are filmed in canada it is someones backyard but not the people necessarily the people watching the show i have nothing against filming in canada but only fishing and filming in the best waters is just like watching a whitetail hunt on a ranch great discussion guys
December 11, 2010 at 5:49 am #916164First-I agree with the swimbait deal-it drives me nuts, but you can’t deny the fundamentals that In-fisherman provided for all of us. Plus, the critical concepts walleye books were way ahead of their time. It was a bummer when Walleye Insider went down due to PWT-over-, it would be a sad day in fishing history if In-fisherman died. I hope they succeed.
December 11, 2010 at 7:20 am #916166very true it would be sad to see in-fisherman go down it just drives me crazy to see what in-fisherman was and what is has become linder is the man and when he left it all started to go down hill

+1. I too, do not want In-Fisherman to cease to exist. That said, for the first time since 1989, I haven’t renewed my subscription. I’m not really sure when it runs out to tell the truth. They keep sending me notices (monthly it seems) to renew, and it just keeps coming. I don’t recall sending them $$ for a couple of years now.

All the classic books they put out were Lindner era books. Infisherman is a far cry to the Lindner days. Sad to see it’s decline. I wish the Lindners would / could start up an Angling Edge magazine. Not sure if they have a no compete clause / contract keeping them from doing that, but I’d be first in line to subscribe.
December 11, 2010 at 11:52 am #916175Swim baits, such an icredible bait even the wintering flats can’t resist ’em. Seriously I seen the show
December 11, 2010 at 12:50 pm #916184While I hate to see any fishing show die, I don’t want to see another catfish/carp show, or a Canadian trip catching walleyes on swim baits on some lake most of us will never see.
I’ve been lucky enough to hit some of the remote Canada lakes and you don’t need swim baits to catch a lot of fish, a lead head jig with or with out a minnow will keep you busy.
Sorry, in-fisherman is boring/repetitive enough I don’t watch anymore and if it dies, it’s their own fault.
December 11, 2010 at 3:05 pm #916215Yeah I am tired of the swimbaits and even channel cats in small creeks. How many shows can he do fishing that one small creek for channels!!!
Bassn DanPosts: 977December 11, 2010 at 6:54 pm #916267The drop off in ad revenue with the bad economy and the fact that the magazine has been sold at least twice since the Linders sold it looks like it’s taken a toll on the magazine and tv show.
It appears that what is happening is the same with them as with a lot of businesses – each time they’re sold the new owners want to lower costs to raise short-term profits. With In-Fishermen the result seems to be smaller magazines, and re-editted tv footage that is repeated for several years instead of producing new shows.
The staff in my opinion is great, and I wish that the Lindners or someone else would take over the business to GROW it rather than to run it down for short-term gains.
Dan
