If you want a simple website, you can design your own with Intuit Homestead. You can upload pictures and add or change text whenever you want. The hard thing is getting it to show up near the top of the search engine pages like Google, etc.

That is where you have to spend some serious money getting your website optimized and marketed to show up at or near the top.

I created a website on Homestead named:

    Gordys Premier Auto Glass

    Check it out.

Jason Halfen here on IDO also has done one.

You have to buy a domain name and pay a yearly fee. It is around $150.

    Good luck.

In my opinion… get a designer. A designer can offer a structured site design and a more contemporary look. Template flexibility is important. A designer can help you get the most out of your analytics, if the site needs to be more than an online brochure they can help with DB stuff, and they should be able to help you with search engine optimization (SEO) – making sure you are employing some best practices in this area.

I need one done to for my guide business. Would be will to trade a trip on pool 2 for it. Just looking for something real basic. Have tried making it myself but have little patience for figuring out how to work the do it yourself web site pages.

Thanks to all who sent a pm.

You will have a reply very shortly.

Mike, I’m in the same boat. I know what I want but am real short of patience to do it myself. (and lack of brain power )

Templates are nice but I’m not really looking for a cookie cutter approach.

    Brian and Mike,
I thought BrianK had a post this summer about a guy from IDO that designed his guiding site. He was asking for input on his site design. I don’t recall the guys name though.

Yep, tried him. We were able to speak on the phone a couple of times but for whatever reason we were never able to meet.
It seemed he knew his stuff. But, things don’t always work I guess.

BTW, you have a pretty good memory

Thanks to those that PMed me about this. Doesnt look like Ill have much time to follow up on this until next week or maybe over the weekend.

I spent about 4 hrs on one of those template sites and created a mess. That was enough of that for me.
