How much does the boat weigh and what is the van rated for? Do you have a weight distribution hitch on it? Does the van have have a tow package with height control? A lot of variables to consider.
I tried it once when the pick up was broke down. I got in trouble at the ramp because of loose gravel. Could not get the boat out of the water. Lucky me I was blocking another boat and the 3 guys in that one were motivated to push me out. Otherwise I did OK taking it slow on the road. I believe if the same vehicle would have had rear wheel drive I would have been OK.
Used to tow my lite sixteen foot Alumacraft with Aerostar and found out about making sure there’s at least a quarter tank of gas. That was on the steep Andersen ramp at Bayport.Good thing it wasn’t cold or rainy that night and the Holiday station was just up the street.
The Aerostar was a rare rear-wheel-drive minivan that had a real frame not unibody construction. The stoutest minivans have a tow rating of 3500# with many additional towing options. That Ranger 620 must be reaching a wet weight of 4500-5000#. well beyond a well equipped minivan. Front wheel drive makes it a very poor ramp vehicle since the weight will not be over the driven wheels. Move it around the yard, but not to the ramp.
I think even if the suspension could handle it the tranny could not. I hate pulling my 14 foot aluminum with the van. Mine is a Grand Caravan and those trannys are trash anyways. DT
That is apples to oranges. 2000lbs is way less than what a 620 ranger weighs. That being said my neighbor pulls his 16′ crestliner (1600#)with a chrysler minivan and has no problems. I would bet that if I tried to hook my 621 ranger to it, the bumper would be close to bottoming sitting in the driveway. The tongue weight is heavy. I wouldn’t try to pull a 620 with a minivan.
