Cabela’s New Warranty Policy

This maybe old news to some, but not me…

Went to Cabelas for a new hunting jacket. I was told by multiple sales employees that Cabelas brand apparel and products are only warrantied for 90 days unless you want to purchase an extended 1 year warranty.

What in the world is up with that?

When considering your next purchase be sure to ask the warranty details, don’t just assume!

It’s their move away from being a specialty retailer to a glorified Wal-Mart.

Nearly all their stuff is imported anyway so the warranty might as well match the quality.

Here is the guarantee info right from the Cabelas website:

I took a pair of 5 year old Inferno boots back because of a small leak. They didnt ask any questions but had to pay $23 for the lowest sale price differance. I thought that was a pretty fair price to pay for a brand new pair of boots.

The above from their own website is NOT CURRENT… And yes I have had some great experiences with them in the past but the NEW policy is new and only 90 days. Make sure you ask before your next purchase.

yeah they may say that it’s 90 days but I think old habbits are hard to break. and it’s what keeps me shopping there. Monday a buddy took back waders that were just about a year old because they had got a hole in the seam. No questions asked. he was handed a new pair. along with another transaction that I still can’t believe.

My issue with the new policy is alot of stuff they sell is very season specific and if the item is bought/ gifted in the off season, one doesnt know weather it is gonna work until that season rolls around, in terms of waiting for ICE or your favorite hunting season to roll in 90 days isnt nothing!! Im very dissatisfied with them! On average you spend 20 dollars extra on every 100 you spend on big purchases there, before I was all good with that because of the return policy, now I’m paying to much and have a return window! Fleet will be seeing me ALOT more!!

Exactly why I’ve mostly stopped shopping there. My kids like going there to look at the fish and mounts, but most of my money is spent elsewhere now. If they change it back to what it was a couple years ago, I’ll start spending my money there again.

A few years ago, I was told by one of their sales associates that a certain rod company had an over the counter exchange policy on them. From that point on, until May of this year, I purchased that brand rod only, thinking that if I broke one, I wouldn’t have an issue making an exchange, especially at the store I purchased it from. Well, one of the rods broke so I bring it back only to find out they no longer do the over the counter exchanges unless it was within 90 days of purchase. Took the rod (and exchaged it over the counter) and my business elsewhere.

I have nothing bad to say about Cabela’s return policy(s). I have witnessed several customers trying to take advantage (returning / exchanging for minor / normal wear and tear flaw after years of use) or asking way too much (no reciept / proof of purchase) of them. And then getting loud and embarrassing with the Customer Service reps when things don’t go their way.

They have been more than fair, in all my few experiences, and that includes witnessing them calmly taking care of customers that ought to be embarrassed by what they’re pulling off – like expecting a customer service rep to have VISA records from 5 years ago, on a pair of $50 boat shoes, so he can return them for some discoloration when they got wet. Ya, true story.

Done venting. I’m pro Cabela’s still. I still spend more at the small local “mom and pop” shops around the lakes I fish most, but clothing and electronics come from Cabela’s.

The reason for the new policy is because people were taking advantage of Cabelas. Guys would load up on Cabelas brand gear on the way to a week long hunting retreat and drop it all back off on the way home. Or guys buying Ice huts in november and taking them back in march.

Don’t blame them for changing their policy. Sounds like you got your use out of the boots

Also don’t forget that Cabelas will price match. If you are spending $20 extra per $100 purchase on big-ticket items then you are not doing your home work and researching product cost before entering their store. Impulsive buying on your part isn’t their fault.

IMHO – it was pretty easy seeing this coming. I usually make a pass thru the cave just in case what I’m shopping for someone’s just returned. I’ve seen worn out, faded guidewear being resold. Or boots with soles half worn. Unreal to think someone would ever think to return something they had good use out of… My mind quickly drifts to the thought those are probably the same morons I pick up after on the hard water…. Oh well, this change won’t change my buying habits from Cabela’s as they’ve always treated me well and when I buy something I realize it won’t last forever, especially if I’m putting it to good use…. Rant over.

I wasnt going there with the intend of screwing them. I told them they leaked and they were nice and cooperative with me. I was pleased with their customer service. I will continue to shop there. Dan

What is Fleets warranty ? I have seen their return counter (when buying license, I never return anything, I break it I bought it, especially after I already bought it ) and them old ladies look like the Mafioso when somebody is returning something…
