What am I missing? Doesn’t Michigan State have to lose for that to happen?
In a three way tie for first place in the Big Ten ~ the team with highest rank in the final BCS rankings will go to the Rose Bowl. MSU ~ currently ranked 12th in the BCS is really on the outside looking in on a three-way tie scenerio with #9 OSU and #7 Wisconsin. Hard to imagine a Big Ten co-champion with one loss all season landing in the Capital One Bowl but that is what would most likely happen to MSU in this three way tie scenerio.
If OSU should loose in the Big House next weekend and Wisconsin & MSU take care of business next week ~
MSU will hold the head to head tie breaker over Wisconsin and will represent the Big Ten in the Rose Bowl. Wisconsin would most likely head to the Orange Bowl as an at large bid in this scenerio. This is really MSU’s only scenerio to play in a BCS game as a co-champion of the Big Ten. An OSU loss would land them in the Capital One.
If MSU layes a goose egg in Happy Valley next weekend and Wisconsin and OSU take care of business ~ Wisconsin would be awarded the Rose Bowl on the head to head tie breaker with OSU. OSU would then become a top canidate for an at large bid in the Orange bowl.
If Wisconsin comes up on the short end of the stick next weekend ~ OSU would be awarded the Rose Bowl because they will finish higher in the final BCS standings than MSU. There obviously is no head to head to settle this tie breaker as the teams didn’t play one another this season. In other bad news ~ MSU would most likely be passed over for an at large BCS bid and fall into the Capital One. Wisconsin would end up in the Outback or Gator Bowl.
Just my 2 cents.
