I’m looking to get a rock guard for my truck to protect my boat when trailering next season, and I was wondering what your experience is with them. What do you like better the rubber mud flap style or the fiber skirt kind. Let me know.

    Thanks,

    Rubber. Rock Tamers from Cabelas.

I don’t really like the hula skirt look.

I wish I knew how to bring up a previous related discussion, but on 11-06-10 there was kind of the same chat. My feelings are that the Towtektor system is the best system available for protecting a boat and trailer. It has the tendency to “stop and drop” rocks that the tires kick up. With the solid rubber units, they tend to riccochet off the flaps and then bounce up on the trailer/boat. jerr

As an after thought, I’d not recommend these for winter use as they fill up and freeze solid with slush and really get ugly looking- – not to mention the melted junk they drip on your garage floor if you don’t kick the “stuff” outta them before you drive in.

cabelas rock tamer. the key is in the height! if its to low when your suspension dips down and if on a gravel road your going to hear it on the boat!

I had the Cabela’s Rock Tamer and I liked them. After hitting a deer, well the deer hit me, it ran right into the corner of the Rock Tamer and folded it to the groud, I had to replace them. I went with the Towtector and I really like the way it protects the boat. It seems to keep a lot more road debris down, it runs all the way across the back of the truck where the Rock Tamer only protects the area over the truck tires. You will need to take the Towtector off in the winter/snow.

My vote would be for the Towtector..hands down
