Chris Niskanen’s Obituary for Fly Fishing Great Tom Helgeson<<

    Quote:

Helgeson opened Bright Waters Fly Shop in 1982 on the corner of 38th Street and Grand Avenue in Minneapolis, and the shop became an epicenter for fly anglers and their causes.

I was one of the hundreds Tom taught how to tie flies. A time that I’ve always treasured.

The banks of the Kinnickinnic and other trout streams will miss this man.

He was really a good guy, I had a chance to chat with him once. He also was the person behind the Great Waters Flyfishing Expos held annually in Chicago and Bloomington. I never missed that show, it had a lot of vendors, seminars, fly tying exhibits, casting lessons, you name it. And he put out a darn good magazine too. He will be missed !

Sad to here, Tom helped me a alot with my fly fishing guide service on the north shore in the early 90’s, he’ll be missed in the fly fishing community.
