So, ummm, I decided not to go fishing today so I was going to watch some football and my Direct TV is out! I just got Direct TV. I had Dish for two years and only lost my signal three times during rain storms. Never lost it due to a snowstorm. It has been out for 7 hours now. Is this what I should expect from Direct TV every time it snows?? Anybody else having issues? Just wondering if it is area wide or if maybe my installer did a bad job.

I just got it a while ago too. I have had no problems with it at all. My parents have had it for years and they never lost it unless the dish was full of snow.

My girlfriend and I had direct T.V. for 4 years and switched to charter because of the same reason. After have direct come out to look at it numerous time and nothing ever changed, we just switched to charter. Everytime it rained hard or snowed or even had big wind we would loose all signal. Charter is cheaper, same channels and we never have any problems.

I’ve noticed that wet sloppy snow and a south wind will cover the face of the dish with slush…last time I climbed up to clean it off and it worked instantly.

Looks like a ladder and broom has solved the problem. The dish was about 25% covered with snow. Still hard to believe I never had an issue with Dish and then the first storm with Direct TV and there goes my picture. Hopefully I don’t have to keep doing that all winter long. Thanks for the input!

I have a 9/12 pitch roof so I got as close as I could and threw snowballs at the back of it…1 solid hit knocked it all off and mine is working again too
Looks like SpongeBob for the rest of the day

Standard HD t.v. is dead as well for me so it is movies for the rest of the day.

Just got off the ladder for the second to time clean off Direct TV. I’ll try the PAM trick.

So ummmm didn’t we have 70 degrees on Monday?

if you are finding it going out that often then you need to have someone come out and adjust it.

in 9 years here I have never had snow take out my directv.. Not once.. do you have a slimline? and what are your signal readings.. if with your dish cleared and your signal ratings are less then 75 on any of the satellites, you got a bad install. go to your menu.. and then to like dish setup.. and then do a signal check and click on each signal .. and then wait for the signal transponders to come up.. when that page is full, click to the next page.. so you check the 101 , 119, and a couple more ..

some you WILL GET A ZERO.. don’t worry about that.. however.. if you get 45 , 55, 65 on transponders your dish needs to be adjusted..

I’ve had to clean my DirecTV dish off twice already this morning. This snow is just sticking to everything.

When it first went out I thought “Oh NO” as I’m a recent convert from cable as well. Then I remember someone telling me about snow accumulating on the dish. Soon as I cleaned it off, I had my signal back.

Ditto here. Only had to go up once this morning to clear it off. Not sure I’d have gone up twice. Came awfully close to a sliding / flying dismount. Be careful up there. I’m guessing most will melt off soon if not already. That was some sticky stuff this morning though.

No probs with ours. I’ve had it two years. Never lost it to a snowstorm. Lost it to several big t-storms, but never more than 15-20 minutes.

Just walked out and checked the cable. Man there is snow stuck all over it…all the way to the pole!

Check the phone, internet and TV…Comcast is coming in clear as a bell!

I dropped DirectTV years ago because they would upgrade service but never offer it to me. When I switched they had a fit and offered lower prices. Sorry about that if you want me to stick around offer me what you have available.

I use a broom to clean off the dish face. Will try the Pam trick, sounds good. Light fluffy snow will not effect service. This wet sticky stuff will just shut it down.
