Looking for a new handheld GPS

Now that the H2Oc is no longer on the market, what is a good replacement GPS? I had a H2Oc and have 3 chips for it. I still have the chips, so it would be nice to get something compatible with them. If that isn’t a reasonable option, what is another good handheld that accepts the lakemaster chips?

I am really leary of buying another. I had some troubles with the last one and am hesitant to buy something that has been discontinued.

I am having troubles with my Expedition C gps too. Lowrance did come out with a new type of handheld, but I am not sure about the chips working in them. If anyone has one of these Endura models of handhelds, please shed some light on quality and durability.

Keypad quit working and it quit locking onto satelites. Also – several powercords quit working for me – and that was a VERY common problem with these units. All issues were fixed without hassle from lowrance, but having 2 units go bad in 4 yrs plus 3-4 powercords did not seem like a good track record to me. I have several friends with Garmin units and not one of them has had to send a unit in yet.

I own a Lorwance XGOG which works in my truck and my boat. I use it for ice fishing too and it accepts the Lakemaster chips. My only complaint is the the battery life is pretty short. This is not a problem when in my truck as I hook it up to lighter. I don’t have a lighter in my boat(could put one in I guess) and when ice fishing you have to use the battery. This is not a big deal as I don’t have it running all day when ice fishing, just use to find my spots and then turn it off until I move. Other than the battery I really like it because of the dual use. Got mine on sale at Cabelas last year.

I have similar problems with locking on to sattelites and power cord issues. No problem with keypads though. The funny thing is it will show the sattelites are visible, but will not lock onto position.

I’ve had my H2OC for about a year now. My only complaint is the battery life also. If you keep the light on, it seems like I can go thru a set of batteries in about 2 hours. Not an issue if you can plug into a lighter though.

Jesse the night fishing Krook turned me on to the battery clip to the cigarette lighter plug trick.

Fleet Farm had them for $4.99.

I’ve had mine for 4 years now and it’s still ticking…knock on wood!

As many as Lowrance sold, I’m guessing failure rates were low but even at 1% that could be well into the 1000’s.

Pay a little more and get the lithium double AAs. I get at least a couple days out of them. Make sure you shut it off when not in use on the ice and keep them warm and they work better and the batteries work for longer. I have a black and white one not the C and it has been a great unit for me.

I am going to try a few more tricks to see if it comes to life, otherwise I will send it in for repair. Lowrance will repair them for set price. I believe they just replace them with a refurbished one.
