When I checked insurance rates this week, I gave them the value that the NADA guide gave me. They said that was acceptable. Insurance for my boat was surprisingly cheap, $69/annual premium.
March 13, 2004 at 2:56 pm #296614My insurance is cheap due to the fact that I have a boat that is valued at $3000. I get $500,000 liability, $5000 medical per occurance, and $2000 personal effects, plus repair costs.
March 13, 2004 at 10:30 pm #296679Just thought I’d make this input on the subject. Several years ago we had a local Sportsman’s Club Fishing Tournament and at the start a bass boat going up stream and a flatbottom coming down stream ran into each other. A woman passenger was hurt pretty severly. Last year my cousin fishing a tournament out of Lacrosse had another boat run into them in the fog. My POINT make sure you have insurance. Good and Safe Fishing to all!!!!!!
March 15, 2004 at 3:30 pm #296862Well..
I just got a call from my All-State Insurance Agent, advised that my insurance for my boat would only be about 67 dollars a year, the only bad thing is…I CAN’T GET IT because i have a speeding ticket, and in order for them to give boat insurance, you must have a clean driving record for the past 3 years. What a crock of #$#!#@ . Now i have to choose other options….Oh well, I guess that’s what I get for driving Camaro’s as a “younger guy”.
March 18, 2004 at 10:46 pm #297391Sounds like a crock of unowhat to me Slopbass. How can the Dept of Motor Vehicle offence have anything to do with boat ins.???

March 23, 2004 at 1:20 pm #297923Comparing what you pay on boat insurance is really not meaningfly because no one here is comparing apples to apples. If your boat is scheduled on your homeowners policy you may not have all the coverage you get with a stand-alone boat policy.
Progressive policies may be more expensive at times because they build in a lot of coverage with their policies.
Also, one question I continue to get is in regards to lower units. If your motor is scheduled on you home policy or on a boat policy your company should replace you lower unit if you take it out. However, unless you have replacement cost on your policy they will not replace the motor. They will pay to fix or get you a new lower unit but not replace the motor. A good way to think of it is if you have a loss with an ACV (actual cash value) policy the companies responsibility is to put you back in the shape you were prior to the loss, not better, not worse. This is different on a RC (replacement cost) policy. In this case you will most likely be in better shape after a loss because they will replace what you had.
It is very hard to compare insurance policies without comparing ALL the coverages.
John LuebkerPosts: 694March 23, 2004 at 1:35 pm #297926Thanks for the insight scott. I am definetly going to talk to my carrier. Are you in the insuarnce field? If so maybe I could get a quote from you and then I know it would be covered for what I REALLY need.
Thanks

March 7, 2005 at 6:30 am #347622I had a problem with my boat a few years ago and State Farm covered it with replacement cost very well. I will say that any insurance is no better than the agent that you have to work with. If I was in the market for insurance I would consider Scott, because he is one of our IDA family.
