Vertigo

Anybody ever experienced this? I’ve had it on and off for a while now. I had some ear issues and we hoped it would go away, but it didn’t. I sat down to read my son a book at bedtime and had to crawl out of the room. Already out of bed because the room was spinning.

I’m pretty sure I’ve felt like this before, but it was always after about 15 beers, not completely sober. Just wondering if anybody else has had this and if so, what helped?

I had a buddy had the same thing going on with the vertigo, ended up being a chunk of ear plug form his work was stuck in his ear causing an infection, once removed all went back to normal in short order, dont know if you would fall into this category…. just a thought

A friend has a severe case of this about once every 5 years and has to go to the doctor to get some medication for it. He recovers within a week. Very difficult to operate when one has no orientation.

Heard of other folks that have a form of it due to inner ear passages being messed up. In one case the person had to follow instructions to do gymnastics to rotate some bone or passage way in the inner ear back to where it was supposed to be and magically was cured right in the office visit.

Go to the Dr. Could be many things including High blood pressure,or just an ear infection or sinus issues. Worth getting checked out, we dont want anybody to have a stroke.

I to,suggest you have it checked out. I’ve been battling this on and off for the last 3 1/2 years as a result of my TBI. It is an ear issue with the crystals in the inner-ear. One very crappy feeling that not only produces room spinning but a very nauseous, sickness feeling.

Some times fluid gets trapped behind inner ear crystals and causes this. There are physical therapist trained in techniques to get things back the way they should be. I would have my doctor check things out and if that is the problem I am sure there are therapists in your area trained in this. Good Luck

Benign, positional, paroxysmal vertigo was the diagnosis for me a couple of years ago when I experienced this. Can be caused by trauma, infection etc. Ended up going to physical therapy where there were exercises to basically re boot the moving parts in the inner ear. A pounding ride in a boat could cause or exacerbate the condition. I had to stay off training my sled dogs on the ATV for about 6 weeks to calm this down. That was 2-300 miles per week that some good people picked up for me. Go to a doctor for your diagnosis and treatment. IDO is a great place to learn that others have gone through similar stuff but our particular situation can have a totally different cause and of course treatment.
Good luck with this and keep us posted on how you are doing.

Thanks everyone. I planned on going to the doctor but just wanted to be a little more informed before going in. Last time I went in for an ear infection they thought I was going to need surgery on both ears which it turned out I did not.

I just like to be a little more informed so I know the right questions to ask.

I’ve heard that the supposed best doc to see for vertigo in the US is right there at Gunderson-Lutheran.

“Ménière’s disease is a disorder of the inner ear that causes severe dizziness (vertigo), ringing in the ears (tinnitus), hearing loss, and a feeling of fullness or congestion in the ear. Ménière’s disease usually affects only one ear.”

Do you experience any of these other symptoms?

I’m not trying to diagnose for you, but I’ve dealt with this disease for the past 10 years or so, and it can be effectively managed with medication.

Here’s a good website if you’re looking for more info: http://www.nidcd.nih.gov/health/balance/meniere.html

    Good luck. . .

I have had it off and on for years. Had an MRI which didn’t do anything. It was bad for a bout a year. Now I have just learned not to spin at all ever. And I don’t jerk my head around quick or get up from lying down quick. If it starts to kick in I sit in a chair very still staring straight ahead for about 10 minutes and it clears up. I haven’t had a real bad bout in years (thankfully) but it is worse than any hangover I ever had. I feel for you.

I have dealt with this firsthand and hope to never have it again. I never threw up that many times in 6 hours ever. I hurt for a week after with all the muscle use. That is one nasty situation to deal with.
Vertigo can be caused from many things. Things like crystals in the semi-circular canals in the ear, fluid build-up in the ear, medications, injury, infections, and many other things.
It is common in older people but can affect people at any age. If it was a one time thing and it goes away, I myself would not worry too much. However, if it is reoccuring, I would worry about it and have it checked.
The dizziness can also be an early sign to stroke. If you are hypertensive that would cause me some concern.

I had it a couple years ago and didn’t feel safe in the tree stan so I had to hunt from the ground. I also had the upset stomach.

I had it a couple years ago for quite a while. It would normally hit me laying down and/or when I would turn my head extremely to one direction. Went to ear specialist. They said it was something floating around in my middle ear. Luckily it just went away on its own.

My dad was diagnosed with vertigo about 14 years ago. The doctor prescribed him Lipoflavanoid. You now can get this pill over the counter, they are calling it a vitamin now I guess. He would get spells alot before taking this pill, since being prescribed he has not had another episode. He takes 2 pills a day 3 times a day. Real scary growing up and seeing your old man just get loopy and start puking his guts out.
