KSTP TV is advertising a special investigative report for tomorrow at 10 PM. Remember now it’s a “sweeps” month so expect sensational stories to temporarily boost their ratings. The trailer talks about how the MN DNR is stocking predators in lakes without asking the landowners around the lake first , and they also hint that mysterious forces from out of state are behind these DNR actions. It sounds like a load of crap to me already, especially since lake shore property owners DON’T OWN THE LAKE and don’t have any more or any less say so than the rest of us. I’ll be watching ….

Last time KSTP broadcast anything close to the truth Happy Days & Richie were ruling the ratings.

Can’t think of a subject that would get me to watch one of their newscasts.

She is half Japanese. That’s all I’m saying.
My brother works with them and says you will not find nicer women anywhere.

Oh I wasn’t questioning the quality of their people. Just the way they do their news broadcasts tweaks me. Seem like ambulance chasers most of the time to me.

I’d like to know how the DNR actually determines where and what they stock?
I’m assuming this is about Musky Inc and their attempt to put muskies in every lake they think will benefit them.

Could be about the MN Catfish and Sturgeon Alliance pushing for stocking of Flatheads in any lake that has stunted sunfish and walleyes smaller than 5 pounds.

I can’t handle watching Megan Bobblehead! Jeez they all must go to the same school somewhere, this head-bobbing routine makes me want to throw rocks at the TV. Dave Moore didn’t have to jerk his head around every other word.

A lake in my area is getting stocked with walleyes this coming spring so they can control the catfish population, the D.N.R. claims walleyes are one of the only fish that will keep catfish in check?????

I believe this will be about the half dozen new lakes for muskie stocking proposed by the DNR. I just hope that they tell both sides of the story and not just take the angle of the cabin owner who doesn’t like the idea because it will “destroy his/her lake”. I think all we can ask is that both sides are fairly represented.

I agree, but I cannot seem to find a news media that shows both sides of the story. Looks like another hatchet job coming at muskie fisherman here in MN….

In fairness to KSTP they did a pretty good side of telling both sides of the story. Got to love TV news. Create a controversial sounding teaser for a story that probably won’t change anybodys mind on anything. They got their ultimate goal of a more viewership I am sure.

Agreed. It was disappointing that the lakeshore association had an opportunity to make some scientifically unfounded statements about stocking and the DNR really didn’t address that when they had a chance to talk. And the teaser about “mysterious forces from out of state” trying to force the DNR to do their bidding was a real stretch. The DNR has received about 20 comments from people, which hardly qualifies as a conspiracy. However KSTP did give Muskies Inc. the last word, and they used it to point out that the lakes are public property.

Missed it, did they ever say why they wanted to stock the fish in what ever lake their talking about?

No offense, but I get a little nervous every time the DNR gets a idea to do something.

Allen, There are five lakes in the state that the DNR wants to stock Muskies in. One resort owner and a Lakeshore Association oppose the stocking on a coupe of the lakes. You can watch the report on the KSTP website at:

Can’t get the site to work here at work, I’ll look tonight, thanks.

Still want to know why though??
To many stunted species of other fish?
No major predator in the lakes?
    Musky inc flexing it’s muscle?
    Or????

Nothing against musky’s, as I fish for them too, but I wonder why they’re spending our money on adding a species to a chain of lakes?
