A nice story about a very sad day.

The past week I found out my Grandma wasn’t expected to make it through the day. Generally this kind of news is about enough to crush a guy and it was, until I went to visit her for the last time.

I grabbed her hand and she opened her eyes, smiled and said “Joe… are we having a fish fry?” I smiled and said, no, not today Grandma.

For the past few years, as often as we could, my brother and I would fry fish outside her nursing home and then share a fish lunch with her. I wouldn’t have traded those visits for the world.

As we stood by her bed, she looked great but she knew it was her time and seemed to be ready. She had a smile bigger than ever and said goodbye to everyone. With our eyes full of tears it was hard to believe she was really going to go, but a few hours later with her kids by her side she passed away.

It’s never easy to loose someone you care so much about, but I couldn’t have been more at peace with the whole thing. We got to see her as we all wanted to remember her, bright eyed and full of smiles. She was an incredible woman and she’ll be missed greatly. We love you Grandma!

Sorry to hear this, but what a great way to remember a person who sounds like a great lady. Time spent with family is never wasted.

Our thoughts are with you and your family Joe!! So many of us don’t have that opportunity to say goodbye, and the question of the fish fry is simply classic. What a great way to remember your grandma!! Again keep that chin held high my friend I’m sure she wouldn’t want it any other way.

Sorry for your loss. Isn’t it neat how our older relatives seem to know when their time has come, and stay with us until most of us have time to see them one more time. Andthey always remember the good times. God bless them all!!
