We’re in the process of moving from beautiful downtown Baldwin Wisconsin to lovely rural New Richmond. In town we had a sufficient cable/internet service. There is no cable service in our future area. What is the best option for internet: hard line phone, cell phone, satilite tv, or something else i dont understand. I dont know what I would do w/o IDO. Any input helps(with the exception of suggesting that I move out of cheezeland and closer to some sort of cicilization) . thanks

I’m sure B K has got your fix, just make sure he brings the converter box to go along with the dish he mounts threw the roof — via basement
October 28, 2010 at 2:05 am #906670When I built my house this winter I had the same problem because it would have cost me $6000 to run a phone line out to my place. Any type of internet around here that uses satellite was a rip off and have had bad experiences with that. I ended up with getting the MIFI wireless internet card from verizon. But I do have very good service where I am at, so this might not work if you have bad service. The speed has been just a good as broadband was in town. I know some people use their Droid for this also.
October 28, 2010 at 3:06 am #889281Within the last couple three weeks I’ve been exposed to tethering a cell to a laptop (or desktop). If you have a Windows Mobil Cell or one of the newer smart phones it’s pretty much a snap. I hear the cards like mentioned above are pretty good too. (no experience here)
I’m sure others will chime in tomorrow.
October 28, 2010 at 3:19 am #906674Can’t you get Centurylink high-speed in that area?? That’s what I have and have never had issues with it.
October 28, 2010 at 12:38 pm #906710I would check with your local telephone company and inquire if DSL is available and at what speeds. If they do check also if they have any bundle specials ie: phone, DSL, unlimited long distance, TV (may be satelite) Good Luck

This works surprisingly well. I use my buddies verizon phone to create a hot spot and it allows me to work from his car all the way up to lake of the woods. Apart from the swamp road near Red Lake, I can get a good 4 hours of work in and then only have to take a half day of vacation :).
September 1, 2017 at 9:15 pm #1713268I live mostly off the grid and use unlimitedville.com. Had relied on satellite for a couple of years until a friend told me about it.
If you sign up, use INRANGE at checkout to get $20 discount.
Went from 14Mbps download/0.20 upload to now at 56Mbps download/5 upload.
Good luck all— pop’em & drop’em!

How does someone report spam here? Most of the other forums I use have a report post or some sort of alert buttonSeptember 3, 2017 at 10:46 am #1713396That’s a stock avatar like yours Jeremy.
The software has been working so good that I haven’t seen many get through.

That is a stock avatar? I guess I should look at more settings. How do I find the list of site staff as I am used to vbulletin forums?
