I’m up for a new phone but do not need the 29.99/month data package.

All the good phones require the data package, but I refuse to pay the added monthly charge.

    Thoughts?

    What do you use?

I don’t notice the difference too much in my phone bill and Use my phone all the time for weather and internet. It’s the convience factor that I like, not having to worry about how much I’ve used.

I have four phones on my plan and if I add the data to each phone it raises my bill by $120 a month plus the costs of each phone.
I think I would notice that each month as it is almost half a car payment.

You don’t need the data plan on 4 phones.

I pay $9.99 for unlimited access. I think I was grand fathered in at that price though.

Beats a $200 dollar plan. Just get the $29 plan. I have have them on both of my Droids and the lady and I love it. Its worth it.

My roommate is a rep for verizon and they are changing to NO unlimited internet real soon! going to be tiered plans and you will base your plan on amount of transfer you would like and there now will be overages for exceeding the transfer amount.

Another option. Pick up an I-Pod touch cheapo 2nd gen on e-bay for $100-150 bucks. (No phone package) Use it for web browsing on any open network. Keep your regular phone and use the Ipod for free web browsing.

bytes. eveything viewed is downloaded from the net in for of bytes. im not really sure how big pages are though… but they will gladly let you go over and just pay the over charge instead of stopping the service when your time is up because for some reason these phones can not run with out data service???

I am at like 450MB right now halfway through the current billing cycle.

I think the deal is too, that as long as you extend the contract, they don’t change the plans (types). I think that’s why I still get the unlimited access cheap, although obviously they can raise the price. I just don’t think they’ll take away my unlimited plan. If they try to, there will be a lot of blow back from many loyal customers.

I’ll be very surprised if Verizon forces such a policy on it’s client base. They will instantly alienate enough customers that the $200.00 disconnection fee will be easily palatable.

If I buy 4 new “Smartphones” each phone requires the 29.99 data package.

I may wait a few more days as it sounds like plans may be changing at Verizon.

If you have an existing contract you will keep your current plans but if you change around things can change . Keep in mind that blackberrys and droids use different data services, not really sure how that works but if you switch from one to the other they will get you with the new pricing.

As my old co-worker Willie used to say, “I know that’s right!”. I am so glad that I paid the extra money about 4 or 5 years ago for the unlimited plan.
