Vehicle Trouble

I went to go fish the Wisconsin River tonight (I go to school in point) and when I turned my key to start my blazer, all it did was click once. I tried jumping it twice, and all the lights came on in the car, including the radio. THe battery is brand new. It just acted like there was no power to the vehicle. My question is what do you think it could be? I need my car asap to get home this weekend to bowhunt. I think it is the starter, but I’m not sure. If that is the case, how ong do you think it will take to fix? I am going to call ALL the auto shops in Point tomorrow morning until I get an opening.

So everything works (lights etc..) but it will not start? Check all the connections particularly the battery and starter, but it I agree it sounds like a starter. Easy and quick fix if it is a starter.

sounds to me like the starter, or a loose or broke wire leading to the starter. They dont take long to fix depending on the location. I changed 2 of them in the last month on trucks and they take about hour by myself and in the driveway.

I would locate the starter and make sure it isnt just a corruded wire right at the starter.
Most starters are 3 bolts and 2 bolts with wires, not real complicated as long as you can get to them.

Checked the connections to the battery, worked just fine…sparked too. Haven’t checked the connections to the starter. Would fix it myself if I had the tools

GM vehicles have always had issues with corrosion at the battery terminal, I would check there first. It’s a pain but if there is evidence of any corrosion you need to peel back the rubber boots and clean everything very good. I would guess 90% of the GM electrical issues that I see are from this including my own. Good luck.

This old trick to try, have someone try to start hold key on and bang starter w a hammer it may start then take it to where ever you need, this may only work 1 time so go get it fixed, this may save a tow charge and getes you in.

if there is corrosion on the battery connections or if there was when you replaced the battery you may want see how much resistance they have! to much resistance could cause the starter not to get enough power. before you tried to jump it did the lights come on? just because they did doesn’t mean there is enough to turn the starter. the starter runs off of high amperage while lights and radios don’t. if your battery is not being charged it could be your alternator!

jake there is a high draw in your starter.
so a easy way to put is you need a starter

if your mechanical savy you can try jumping the solanoid (sp?) on the starter to get it running one more time to the shop. My guees still is a corroded wire at the starter, the solanoid on the starter, or the starter itself.

Just take 2 RUBBER handled screw drivers, turn the key to start, and touch on screw driver to the main power coming down from the battery and touch the other one to the post on the starter, than touch them together. That will by-pass the solanoid and it will tell you which one is bad. If it starts than its the solanoid, if it doesnt, replace both.
