Looking at purchasing a 1982 16′ lund Mr.Pike. First off how are these boats overall? Second off what would be the rough estimate value of one with a 50 merc. on it and a old trolling motor. It is what I consider a project boat. The inside is basically a full restore as the floor is rotted and I’m guessing the steering cables and electrical would need replaced. The outside of the boat and the trailer would need some paint and little work but overall its in better shape than the inside. The big motor hasn’t been ran in a few years and not sure if the trolling motor works. Comes w/ no electronics.

I would definitely not pay more than $900…

I run one… 18FT with a 70 Merc. Used to be my old mans back in the 80s, sat unused in the 90s….till I took it off his hands early 2000s. I did a full restore and could see myself using this boat for some time. (I run it on the river and it keeps going)
If there is one thing I could change on it, it has a narrow beam. Not the most stable for anchoring perpindiclar in the river current, but still workable.
    Otherwise its a great boat.

If the motor is in good shape…. even if it hasn’t run for a few years, and the trailer is in tact. $1500-$1000 is a fair price. I would be hard pressed to pay more. If you can get it for less… tip of the hat.

Sounds about right were I was thinking price wise. I’m really looking at getting this boat to get me back on the water at a decent price until I can get something bigger and better.

Edit: Also how would this work on lakes around the 1000 acre size when it gets windy?

That boat & motor combo will work great on lakes much bigger than 1000 acres. My top price for that rig the way you described would be $1000-$1200 depends on the motor.

Offered $800. He came back with $1000(original asking price was $1200). I was figuring I would maybe come back with $900 and hopefully get it for that or maybe $950. He told me the water pump is out and needs replaced. If the motor is shot am I still in range price wise?

So you can’t even check to see if the engine is operational? Hmmm…. this one smells fishy…. unless your only after the boat???

The engine runs I know that. That being said with the water pump being bad I don’t want to run it to long so it doesn’t overheat and ruin the engine for good. But at the same time I’m a little uneasy about buying a boat with an engine I haven’t been able to test on the water full throttle or even do a compression check on if there is a chance it will put me behind the ball price wise.
