New to group. Looks like an unbelievable forum. I am from Lake Hopatcong, New Jersey. I am in the middle of plunking down $11,000. for a new leftover 2003 LUND REBEL 1650 SS, brand new with a Honda 4 Stroke 50 HP Eng. Just wanted to see if you guys agree this is a fair price. Thanks very much in advance. I look forward to checking this forum daily. Jack T.

Welcome to the site Jack99. That sounds like a pretty fair price for a good boat.

February 26, 2004 at 2:38 am #294192Welcome to the site as well!!! New jersey huh? Kinda far away from our area, but looking forward to your fishing insite’s!!!
Sounds good to me as well….Always try to get lower though…ya never know!!!February 26, 2004 at 2:44 am #294196Jack, Welcome to the site. Sounds like a good price with the 4-stroke on it. Prices can vary from state to state, region to region so check your local sources to compare the going rate as well. But it does sound like a fair deal. After all, it is a Lund!
February 26, 2004 at 2:55 am #294202Welcome Jack, I fished Lake Kopatcong many, many times and also fished Round Valley Reservoir. It’s good to see someone from back home here. Your not going to find a better site on the net than this one.Enjoy.
February 26, 2004 at 3:34 am #294174Welcome Jack. How did you find us?
That looks like a good price to me. You will love your new LundFebruary 26, 2004 at 3:56 am #294209A quick look at nadaguides.com (I’m really not sure how accurate their figures are for boats) reveals you’re gtting a heck of a deal if that rig is in the shape it should be given it doesn’t sound like it’s been used at all.
2003 LUND REBEL 1650 SS,
Average Retail: $4,270
Honda 4 Stroke 50 HP
Average Retail: $5,340
So… $9,600 for just the boat and motor and I wasn’t able to price an unused 50 HP Honda as a “new” ’03 was not an option. If you have any options on that boat at all and a decent trailer…. BUY IT QUICK!
Welcome to the site.
February 26, 2004 at 3:03 pm #294235Thanks guys. Really do appreciate the responses. Even took the trouble to do some research for me. I think I hit the jackpot with this great site. I feel like I made the right decision on the boat. I will check site daily. Feel free to ask about this part of the country. Certainly not as many choices at in your part of the country but we do have Lake Hopatcong and the beautiful Delaware River, which harbors some great musky fishing and smallies (picture enclosed) and the annual Spring shad run. Thanks again for the hardy welcome. Jack Tracey
February 26, 2004 at 3:07 pm #294237Yikes, I thought I was placing that picture in that little space at the left. Man, I’ll do whatever I have to do to get that “portrait” out of there and over to that area to left. Jack.
February 26, 2004 at 3:56 pm #294250Gotcha covered Jack. Personally I thought that photo was excellent!

February 26, 2004 at 11:55 pm #294326Thanks for moving that graphic. Any one else have a Lund on this NG? My first one. Can’t wait to use it, the lake has about 20″ of ice. Still got about a month to go.
February 27, 2004 at 1:43 am #294339Welcome to IDA Jack,
I am on my third Lund a 1650 Angler SS, working my way up to a Pro V
You got yourself a great boat at a great price I look forward to some fishing reports from your neck of the woodsFebruary 28, 2004 at 1:37 am #294496All right Steve. Best news I’ve heard all day. Just glad to feel like I got the right boat. And yes, as soon as the darn ice melts I’ll be sending some interesting posts, I hope. New Jersey is so different from where you guys are, but we have a few good spots, even a couple of good musky areas. Best regards, Jack T.
February 28, 2004 at 3:31 am #294490HI Jack,
do they have any closed seasons out there, or when the ice melts can you fish through the entire fishing year?? How are the Stripers out there?? Welcome to the site,
Jack.February 28, 2004 at 3:46 pm #294539Hey Jack. Yea, you can fish the entire year. The big lake (Hopatcong) is iced out since December and there is quite a bit of action going on there now, about another month of that. Some guy caught a 43″ musky through the ice last week. I am waiting for ice out, going nuts like you guys. Then I will have the choice of the lake and then the beautiful Delaware River which harbors many species of fish. That river does have walleyes, which not too many folks around here persue, what is the best way to catch them. Figuring I might try that this year. Today the sun is shining, about 50 degrees, so we are starting to think Spring. Good luck. Jack.
February 28, 2004 at 4:07 pm #294540Hi Jack, I am also the proud owner of a 03’1650V Rebel / 30Hp four stroke EFI Merc. I paid $6999.00 It has been a very nice boat thus far. I did add a few little extra’s. A plug in,in the bow for a trolling motor. A light in the live well. Also put in a diffrent livewell switch with a timer on it. I think you will really like your boat. They handle the bigger water just fine.. Scott
February 28, 2004 at 10:39 pm #294566Hey Scott: That sounds great. Sounds like you got a great buy on your boat. Did your price include a trailer? If you don’t mind how about another question. How will you handle the battery situation. I have 2 batteries, crankin in back and trolling motor up front. I’m going to have them install an on-board charger. What would you do if you were in a reservoir and the battery died, will you then use the crankin battery? And if so, how. Also, have you felt secure with just the one bilge pump? Glad to have someone to ask these questions to. Really appreciate your help Scott. Thanks a lot. Jack.
February 29, 2004 at 3:51 am #294522Jack, I have a Rebel 1440V SS with Yamaha F40 on it, same battery setup as you. I always carry a set of jumper cables in the bow storage locker for emergencies. Last weekend I added a couple pairs of 6 ga stranded copper wire that runs between the battery compartments. I bought a transom mounted trolling motor and wanted to leave the troller battery in front for weight distribution. I guess my 2nd set of wires could easily act as emergency hookups between batteries if it ever got to that.
February 29, 2004 at 3:18 pm #294573Jack, yes it came with a trailer 1400# Shorelander. Have not had the need for a second bilge. I have added a second battery in the transom for aft troller,so have a jumper set up should the need arise. I at this time dont have an onboard charger. I have been looking at diffrent brands trying to get a good idea of which one to buy. Have no experiance with them as this is my first real boat.
Hope this helps Scott.February 29, 2004 at 3:52 pm #294605I fished out of a regular 16 ft. Lund Rebel for 8 years and really liked the boat. Started out with a 25 hp tiller then went to a 40 hp tiller then added a console in the rear and then finally a 6 hp kicker and had trolling motors both front and rear. Added 4 fish locator and a bunch of rod holders and the boat was everything I needed during those 8 years I had it. Had alot of fun and caught alot of fish in it. I upgraded the original trailer for a better one with twice as many rollers and she loaded and unloaded alot better. You should like the boat very well.
Thanks, BillFebruary 29, 2004 at 5:00 pm #294610Thanks Scott and Bill for your reply. Will consider what you said re the battery. Just one more question please. What do I do when the trolling motor battery is at the front, near the trolling motor, and the cranking battery is in the rear. How do I “feed” the energy from one to the other if they are 16.6′ away from each other. Sounds like a dumb question I know, just wondering what I would do if the trolling motor battery died on the lake, how I could use the power of the cranking battery, or do you have cables that would reach from one battery to the other. (16.5′). Thanks again guys. Really appreciate the help. I wish we had a forum like this in Jersey. Nothing at all like this. Jack.
February 29, 2004 at 9:24 pm #294628I have never run out of power yet. If you think you need that much juice you should hook a second battery in parallel then you will have enough for an entire weekend on a single charge. I have run my autopilot 55# all day and still had plenty of power left. I have a 27 series Exide nautalis gold. Bought new last year at cabelas. Only way I could see you running out of power would be on river in heavy current. Scott
March 1, 2004 at 4:46 pm #294727Jack:
I wouldn’t be concerned about the loss of power from the trolling motor. I would be concerned over using the power from your cranking battery and then not be able to crank your motor. If you’re going to consider that, make sure that you have practiced the pull start method for your motor.
