Where would you go next weekend if you had your choice between Red Wing, Devils Lake, Mille Lac, and Rainy River? Just curious as I have some vacation to burn and trying to hook up with the best bite available. Thanks any recommendations on where to stay also would be appreciated.

Fall Walleye Trip next week

The bite at Red Wing will be getting ridiculous very soon. I’m guessing it will be in full swing by next weekend. We caught a few nice eyes mixed in with the Saugers for the last 3 days, and it will get better every day from here on out.
October 17, 2010 at 9:15 pm #904666The night bite on mille lacs is going good, and with full moon right around the corner… I know where I will be.
October 17, 2010 at 10:37 pm #904673I would be headed back to LOW. 100 fish days last week without the shiners running. They should be getting closer this week.
October 17, 2010 at 11:07 pm #904675The big thing is water temps…The Saugerama lower weights this year tell the tale, along with guys that got skunked tells me its not there yet. It doesn’t get “ridiculous” at Red Wing until the temps in Pepin hit about 50 and below…which moves the Shad forage base up river… Thanksgiving is PRIMO P-4 TIME!!!!
The AMs are getting colder but forecast is still for mid 60 afternoons…
LOW sounds good to me!October 17, 2010 at 11:19 pm #904678Tom,
I’m willing to bet you $20 that the fishing on P4 will pick up dramatically in the next 7 days. We will let the locals be the judges of it.
October 17, 2010 at 11:38 pm #904680Dont know if Mille Lacs is the best bite going but there are fish biting. Myr Mars launch is reporting some pretty good catches on their night trips bobber fishing. Night trolling this last weekend was pretty decent. We caught 8 the 1st night even with fighting the waves. Caught 15 the second night but ended up going in just as it was getting good. The fish we are catching are getting those huge fall bellies to.
October 18, 2010 at 1:18 am #904687I wont argue it will pick up…because right now the bite is not hot.
20 late Oct/Nov fall P-4 trips in the last 10 years has shown me how “ridiculous” the bite can be later.
I’ll betcha $50 that the bite is WAY better by mid/late November than in a week!BTW I will be fishing P-4 in a week also!=, I hope you are RIGHT
October 18, 2010 at 1:29 am #904688It’s right on the edge, the Saugers are moving up. Lots of fish were caught prefishing the Saguerama, tourney day was a different story. Once the rollers get dropped, it will change things. We caught at least 1 nice eye all 3 days while targeting Saugers as well. I won’t be up next week, so I won’t be able to see for myself, but I wish I could be.

So P4 might be good but maybe save that for a later trip closer to home for you and wht not come to ND for your last BIG trip of the year,

October 18, 2010 at 2:29 am #904694I have this week off and will be on the Rainy when not duck hunting, grouse hunting or going after some big fall gators on the lake. But then it’s all very close by. We fished Rainy river yesterday afternoon and did well. Did I mention I love living up here? So many options so little time.
hndPosts: 1579October 18, 2010 at 1:11 pm #904716this morning at the end of the dock at sportsmans the water temps hit 51.
October 18, 2010 at 1:14 pm #904718We had a slow day on pool 4 Saturday and still ended up catching over 20 fish. Lots of 14-16 inch eaters.
I’d say Pool 4.
October 18, 2010 at 1:37 pm #904723Thanks for all of the advice will have to see how the week pan’s out as it seems there are some decent bites out there. Thanks and tight lines to all!

If you have the flexibility just wait to plan your end destination until the last possible minute. That way you end up on the best bite. I’m sure the guys here will be updating the various bites throughout the week.
