Is the HTC Google powered by Android 2.2 that same as one of the above?

I chose the x because of the keyboard. I had a touch phone before and sometimes the screen didn’t work well in cold weather. Either way I think you’ll be happy. BTW I typed this with my phone.

I have the incredible and it’s a great device w/the exception of battery life…Be prepared to charge it at least twice a day…especially w/heavy usage.

the X is nice b/c of it’s keyboard and hotspots features… as well as everything else it does….but Do not choose the Droid X if you plan on using it with an exchange environment…it WILL fail on you at some point..

SAMSUNG FASCINATE!!!! Just got 2, one for me, one for the wife. If you like a touch screen phone this is the cats pajamas. It’s basically the iphone with droidx software!! Absolutely love it!!!

Any way you go with an android phone you’ll be happy I think.

I have owned both and I kept the X. You will not be disapointed either way. The Incredible didn’t work for me because I am on the edge of the towers and I had over 30-40 dropped calls in 2 weeks at my house so it went back. Had the X for over 4 months and only maybe one or two dropped calls at the same place. I guess HTC is known for poor antenna strength? Both phones are awesome phones. I would have to say the Incredible is a little faster then the X but hardly noticable, Happy shopping.

the incredible isn’t such a big phone, has a better screen, and the HTC sense UI is much more popular then moto’s UI.

and you can make the incredible a hotspot and tether for free. just have to change a line of code on the phone.

The Droid X has the largest screen of all phones on the market. Something to remember for carrying around. Also battery life is short for most new smart phones from what I hear but depends on use. I love my X as it does so much. Most of the Apps are free and there are so many for the fisherman/outdoorsman/sports fan. Look at some previous Droid posts for ideas on favorite apps. Oh- if you hate to type, you can speak into the phone and it spells out all the words for you! Just hit the send button and your done!

If I HAD to pick from the two you listed, it would be the X for the keyboard. If I could go off-list so to speak, I would go with whatever Samsung galaxy S phone the carrier you are with carries. The new super AMOLED screens kick butt. The fascinate and mesmerize are the two galaxy models I know off the top of my head.

X and keyboard? Virtual keyboard is better due to size, or does your X actually have a slider??

From what I have seen of the new ones, the only Droid with a slideout keyboard is the Droid 2…. Am I missing something?

I was thinking of the Droid 2 when referencing the keyboard. There are a few phones in the Samsung Galaxy series with keyboards, as well as Motorola has at least one coming out or out that has a keyboard. No keyboard on the X though, but I have not actually used either the X or the 2.

HTC’s G2 has both keyboards. After becoming an expert in less than a week…(jk) I seldom use the slider.

I have heard from others that you get very used to the on-screen keyboard (vs a slider)… (??)

The X is such a big screen, it might just come down to “pocketability” for me since they are otherwise similar. The X has the HDMI out, but I’m not sure how often I’d use that. I’m sure they run apps and do most other stuff pretty similarly… For my purposes, probably not much of a difference when it comes down to it.

    Always looking for input, though.

Droid 2 is probably the other option I should have put up there, but I never thought I would really need the slider keyboard.

Main options if you include the slider keyboard Droid 2….

    Droid 2

    Droid X

    Droid Incredible

The Fascinate is also out there…Again, for my needs, I’d probably be well served just fine by any/all of them. Which maybe makes this post irrelevant…

I chose the DroidX on screen size alone. You have never ever heard anyone say, “gee i wish the screen was smaller”.

Not sure why people are saying keyboard, as the X doesn’t have one. Motorola sure confused people by naming their Android software phones Droid. People assume Droid and Android are the same thing.

I believe the Droid 1 and 2 have the keyboard.

I will say that getting used to the virtual keyboard was the biggest issue from me coming from a BlackBerry. I still think I could text faster on a physical keyboard, but the Swype software closes the gap to about even.

One postitive I’ve found is that it’s basically impossible to text while driving without a physical keyboard. So I don’t even try anymore….that was until I discoverd the speech to text function.

Don’t expect much from the battery life on any of the latest and greatest smartphones, a full day is really about the most you will ever get out of it.

Whatever you buy, be sure to check out JimmyHouston’s Fishnotes App. It is pretty darn cool!

Now that you throw the fascinate in there, that would be my first choice. The super AMOLED screens are thinner and the video quality is much better than the current screens.

same screen on my Incredible. I got mine this summer, before they switched to the SLCD due to shortages of the AMOLED.

Reading this makes me chuckle but I decided to take a step back in time and ditched the “smartphone” altogether.

Was a Blackberry user, had the touchscreen Storm for the last 2 years. I don’t have to tell ya’ll what it does cause you know. It really became a distraction for me and I think it complicated things. Internet whenever I wanted, e-mails all hours of the day… yuck! Whenever the phone beeped I had to look at it.

I just got a basic LG flip phone last month and have been using it for almost a month now. I can honestly say I don’t miss the BB, I don’t. Was really, really, REALLY worried about it but it hasn’t been a big deal.

Its kind of nice just having to worry about it when it rings.

There’s my deep thought for the day, and my phone bill got cut in half.

OK….I’m coming out of the closet

I have never had a smart phone and, have always laid on the side lines during these post!

Being a US.Cellulare customer, unlimited text with Nation wide coverage for 4 phones on the family plan (never to change) and, also with two daughters on my plan both with the Crackberry operating systems, I can’t wait to up them one with the android operating system provided by US.Cellulare….did that make since I’m not sure of the difference between Droid and Android but……

From my research….HTC has a faster processor (total touch screen) than the Samsung with the slider key pad.

Just being a rookie, I’m willing to learn the touch pad over the slider just for the speed and what I have read so far on this post.

Techno I am not but, thank you to all the responses on all these types of post for keeping me up to date

Droid is a phone series by Motorola. Android is the operating system developed by google. Droid phones run the android operating system. HTC, Samsung, and others all make android phones. It was kind of stupid for Motorola to name their phones droid because it has created confusion among consumers. They are all running android.

I can’t wait until July to upgrade from my Droid (1). I cracked the dang screen on Thursday. Luckily it is in the corner and not much of a distraction.

I like having the option of the physical keyboard. If I want to write more than a couple sentences, that is what I use. That or speech to text, but then if it mishears one word, it is a pain correcting it or you have to try again until it gets it right.

I’d like to have the HDMI output. I also want a larger screeen. I am with Darren on that, as without getting too crazy, I don’t mind the larger phone with a bigger screen.

Lets see. July is about 8 months away. I wonder how many more Droid phones there will be by then. And what clever names are they going to come up with by then? What crazy hardware features will they have added?

Cracked screens suck that’s why I decided on insurance!

I believe Verizon will let you adapt or upgrade even before your new every two but you wouldn’t get the upgrade credit. I think the only stipulation is you have to have had your phone a year and you sign another 2 year deal. So if the $100 or $50 isn’t that big of a deal then just do it!

I have the insurance. But I am not too keen on getting a refurbished one unless absolutely necessary and I heard that is what they give you. Like I said, it is in the corner and doesn’t bother me, otherwise I would turn it in and get a refurb. I wish I had been more careful though or still had the protective rubber case still on it.

Be careful. Those screens are flush and if the land flat on something like a rock, you’re screwed.

    Update…

    Went with the Droid X

(I understand the point about “stepping back” to a lesser phone… We’ll see how much of a distraction vs help this phone is for me)..

But…. So far so good – its amazing what these things can do! So many apps have already come in handy, or have at least been interesting… Bubble level for hanging pictures, Gmote for remoting into my PC, Movies for finding showtimes/watching trailers….
