    change the lower unit oil
make sure the carb is dry, either drained or ran dry

Unless you own an Evinrude Ficht & maybe Etec’s also.
Never, every run the Ficht out of gas. Unless you want a really expensive repair bill.
Better off filling the tank full, add double the amount of Stabil to the gas, run you’re engines so that you’re sure the Stabil mixed gas is in the fuel lines going to the engine and store for the winter.

Doesn’t “winterizing” mean – plugging all the holes so so my pipes don’t freeze when I’m fishing the river in December/January.

It’s what you do when you put the summer boat away and pull the winter boat into the garage!

I on the other hand never leave my carb dry….
I empty the tank…..refill it with one gallon of double dosed Stabil……run it though till the carb is full of the fresh gas….
Never had problem 1 starting it in the spring….
I just never liked leaving a carb dry…..But that’s just me.

I don’t leave mine dry, either. My last few tanks of the year are stabilized. Haven’t had an issue in the spring yet (unless you count the time I forgot about the kill switch )

Thanks guys. I got what I was looking for. It is my Grandsons boat and I would like him to take care of it.
    The link was perfect Jon

Dry carbs are a killer. Ethanol in gas can create “White Rust.” If you have ever seen it, you know what it is. Seafoam and Sta-bil can and do counteract it. Put me in the camp of treating your gas, and run it before putting it to bed.

Does it do any harm if you add more Seafoam or Sta-bil ( like twice what it calls for ) ?

You want Sta-bil for winterizing and no, it doesn’t harm anything when you double dose. I’ve been doing this for years with multiple motors.
And if we get some warm winter weather, I just pull ole Betsy out of the garage and hit the river.

175hp, 2003 Envinrude Ficht…..no problems to speak of so far. And she gets used a heck of lot more than most do. I’ve taken good care of her, always treat her well and in return, she has always taken care of me!

To much sta-bil can dilute the fuel just enough to make it not fire. Will not harm anything but may need to dump some fuel out and put fresh in. I never had it happen on an outboard but have it happen on smaller engines.

Just for reference, read the directions on the back of a bottle of sta-bil. If memory serves me correctly, (highly suspect to say the least) they mention double dosing.
