A friend/co-worker of mine emailed these to me yesterday.

God, that just sucks so bad… but at least it hasn’t spilled over the channel into downtown Mankato yet. YET! It’s been YEARS since I was down there, but the way I remember it, that channel is like 50′ deep and 200 yards wide! And it’s on the verge of spilling. Wow.

    Poor folks…

The bridge pic is the Broadway Ave/hwy 22 bridge in St. Pete. That bridge is normally about 20-25 feet above the water. Just to the right in that picture is the St. Pete public boat ramp. Looks like the entire parking lot is under water. I haven’t even seen it this high in the spring..

I think it was 1991 or 92 when the river in Mankato was up to the walls and even up the walls in places, washed out the walking/bike trail. I think that was the last year they tried keeping that little park between kato and St. Pete open, the water was up to the top of the ball field fence, the tall fence behind home plate.

Its not good…. I take water quality samples at some of those places in your pictures on a weekly basis, and do my master research in the area rivers. Many rivers in the area are still above the 98th percentile for flow and gage height. Homes, Businesses, and Fields have been completely destroyed throughout south central MN.

It was 92′ that it was so high. Its known in the Ag community as Zero92, standing corn fields were disced under region wide. It was so wet that planters were still in the field at the 4th of July. I remember sitting the the tractor with my old man just chiseling under acre after acre of corn that was to immature to produce an ear.

I don’t have a long history living near the Minnesota, but I was amazed how far over the banks it was when I went over the 35W bridge. I was almost as equally amazed how big Black dog has grown because of it.
