Looking to purchase a rock guard-tow tector (to mount on the back of my truck) to protect my boat. Looking for pro’s and con’s of what’s out there. Any info would be appreciated.

I have a set of these Rock Tamers from Cabela’s.

Look good and do a super job. 100% satified customer.

If you want to get by a little cheaper, look to RV centers. They have a lot of different low end rock gards. They will last you a year or two.

I have the towtector brand. It works very well and everyone always says they like my hula skirt. Downsides would be it can rub on some of the plastic on my bumper so I put some weather stripping on the towtecter itself to prevent that. Hooking the boat up is kind of a pain digging thru the skirt to hook the wiring up, but again not a big deal. Can’t forget the American flag on there telling everyone its made in the USA.

I have used several brands…as of now,Tow-tector is my choice.Regardless of the brand, getting the correct fit,ie ground clearence is crucial. The wrong lengths can & will do more damage than good. Sorry to say,I learned that the hard way as well on gravel rounds in canada. The new boat wasnt new very long.

I’ve been using the(Tow-Tector)brand for a couple of years now,and towing my boat on dirt roads to fish Montana reservoir’s to the lake’s in northern MN and I can’t find a rock chip on the my bow of my boat yet! Great product.

I’m so convinced they’re the best that I bought a 2nd. I use one on my dually to pull my 5th wheel and one on the pickup to pull the boat. I did some serious damage to a new boat trailer on some of SD’s gravel roads- – never again jerr

If you are a city boy and the only gravel you ever see is the gravel between the concrete bunks at the landing. Then Tow Tector is a fine product. If you are an hardcore fisherman who is a little nuts/aggressive and go places that may be off the beaten path (tar). Then Tow Tector is a rip off piece of junk.

Dad’s boat has hundereds of rock chips taken out of it after our week in Canada.

I would look into something like this. Montana RockNockers

    Or the trailer Tux.

    Trailer Tux

The Tow Tector would be OK if you had mud flaps as well as the Tow Tector AND the Trailer Tux.

What Dean said!! I’ve got a set of Roadmaster Road Wing hitch mounted mud flaps. (similar to Rock Masters) If they aren’t cut down (up) to correct level, or if your back end drops down over a bump / dip in road, they kick up gravel!! Worse than not having them.

I looked seriously at a Tux, but can’t justify the price. If I drove alot of gravel, I’d have them yesterday. I’m going to be putting my Road Wings up for sale as soon as I get my Tow Tector. Good luck…

I used a rockknocker, very good product, but always seemed to be in the way. Those nasty canadian gravel roads take their toll on even this product.

Driving a bit slower and making sure my load is level,is my best suggestion.
