My must see at the State Fair has always been the DNR’s fish pond.

While googling this morning, I came across this MN DNR’s Fish Cam<<

I’m thinking I can skip the fair this year.

Deep fried Spam is good. I had it in Austin, MN. I went on thursday. The DNR does a great job with their booths. If only they would let you fish in that pond!

I bet a hair jig cast across that pond would not stand a chance. Might not even make it tot he bottom with out being picked up.

As a kid I could spend hours at the DNR fish pond.

That was a segment on Minnesota Bound. They drain a DNR pond (Forget the location of pond) and scoop the fish into transport tanks. Many of the fish have made the trip to the fair for years.

The site is not updated with the last show. Probably in a week or two.

    Beekism? JAKOB!

Googling is what I do bestest on the Internets.

I wonder if those sturgeon were the original State Fair Sturgeon?

…and I wonder why there isn’t any Flathead Cats in there?

I still have to go. I don’t think ‘accidentally’ dropping part of a hotdog and bun infront of the screen is going to do anything.

They get the fish from a small pond off of warner road in St. Paul. I saw the dnr get the fish out of there a few years ago when I worked for the mn conservation corps which shared a building with the dnr fisheries office right there off of warner rd. Its crazy the pond off of warner rd is less then an acre in size but all those species of fish are able to coexist.

    Take care everyone!

The segment they showed on tv didn’t look like they were coming from warner rd. Seemed too big to be that area.

I agree with that comment. Driven by that Warner rd pond 1000s of times. Didn’t look like it. I have seen them drain that pond several times. Those fish they net there are usually fingerlings.

Maybe they didn’t even say an exact location??? I’ll need to look for a re-run. They will probably put the video on in 2-3 weeks.

Didn’t they have on display the 8pt buck that was poached last year? If I read it right they had it on display one day for 4 hours. Is that true?

Don’t understand that. Would be the only thing that would get me to go and I couldn’t make it today.

Only if you have a 2011 calendar.

I’m guessing you’ll be close to the DNR fish pond in the Wilcraft display. Hey! Since I can’t make it, would you walk over the the MarCAM and turn on the lights at dark?

Although I’m getting good at identifying silhouettes of fish.

If I knew you were coming, I’m pretty sure I could rustle one up.

If we don’t cross paths in the next three months, catch up to me at the IceFishing show (there otta be cases of calendars at that event).

The Minnesota Bound – State Fair special TV show is up on the MB site:

    http://www.mnbound.com/watch-mn-bound/

The fish pond segment starts at 5:30 in the video.

I must stand corrected on the location of the “Top Secret” pond. After seeing the video again and then driving by the now drained Warner Rd DNR pond, it is indeed the spot.

BK – take a look at your flat being loaded into the truck tank. Obviously being well fed there!
