My son in law bought my old 97 Chevy pickup a year and a half ago and the motor just blew up. Sounds like somebody dumped a bag of steel balls in the motor when it is running. We are looking for a good place to buy a reliable replacment 5.7 vortec engine. Any recommendations?

Are you sure that it is the motor or something on the acc. drive belt?

If the rest of the truck is worthy ,I would buy a GM Goodwrench rebuilt long block.Well worth the the extra $$$.

I have installed alot of truck engines and when it comes to the Votec engines you better off buying new/rebuilt versus buying a used engine you know NOTHING about.

At this stage if you buy GM rebuilt ,it will last the remainder lifetime of the truck. Will a used one ? NO !!

Motor is definatelty hatched. It has had a low end knock when cold for quite a while. A GM crank or rod journal issue in some of the late 90’s 350 engines. He knew it when I sold it to him and he got it for a good price from me. Lasted for 35,000 miles for him.
I am thinking the GM or maybe a Jasper motor.

I think I might know a GM parts guy

Retail on a GM Goodwrench motor for that truck (provided it’s a half ton) is $2341.00

PM me and we can talk wholesale pricing.

If the truck itself is in decent shape and not many other issues with it I would go with the new GM. I know that site sponsor, Markquart Motors would be more than willing to help you out with that.

Im not to far off from needing a tranny and have already started talking to dave about it.

Call this number 715 833 0444 and ask for dave. Tell him your on ido and what your looking for. He should be able to get you a price back quickly.

    Thanks to all who replied.
My son in law has a friend who works at a place where he is getting a chevy crate motor, new radiator and new engine oil cooler lines as a package. That way they don’t have to worry about flushing out all the metal shavings out of the oil cooling system.
