This guy came by to say hello yesterday. He made several passes around the boat within an arm’s length. I probably shouldn’t have but I handfed him 4 fathead minnows. He ate and swam off unflustered. Fish weren’t biting but this made up for it jerr

Maybe he wasn’t catching anything either so he’d give it a try. They are a really pretty bird!

That’s really cool! thanks for sharing.

The closest I have gotten to loons is being dive bombed by them. That’s a lot of fun.

There were 2 loons feeding like crazy on Fall Lake up by Ely (one in adult plumage and one still a juvie) as I was trolling and they never moved till one came up from a dive RIGHT under the front of the boat. I’ve never heard as much screaming and squawking as they both did when it came up and then bolted like a fiend away from the boat.

And they knew I was there, too, because they kept looking at me as I got closer and closer and closer. They were within arms reach then, too, and it was really cool!

Last year my wife and I were fishing in late Sept by Nissawa and had an young loon around our boat way too often for comfort. I could not figure out why until I notice when my wife was reeling her silver minnow back in that the loon was chasing our baits. I even got a movie of it on my camera. It was cool, but we had to keep movie out of the way as we were afraid we might catch it.
