Alright Guys and Gals, in preparation for the fair (mn state fair) lets talk about the Do’s and Don’t of the fair food.

For me I was totally shocked, the single best thing I’ve ever had at a fair was the deep fried bacon, I mean it’s bacon and all, how could it be bad? I wasn’t expecting to freakin love it, can’t even fully explain why, had to try it for the novelty, and it was awesome…..

Roasted corn is a must for the wife.

    Cheese curds…

Though I don’t “seek” them out, I’d have a hard time passing up the cream puffs.

Tried a scotch egg last year, overall a big dissapointment, not super fresh and hot, not sure It would’ve helped….

Haven’t read anything yet about what’s new this year.

We start with a scotch egg when the stand opens and think they are great! Love the Australian fried potatoes but they fill you up quick.

Footlong hotdog with raw onions and mustard. Also always have to sample both a corn dog and pront pup, you know, to tell the difference.

Tried the deep fried gator last year and it was actually pretty good with their hot sauce on it.

Deep fried Spam Curds were not so good.

Well I pretty much get the same food every year. Mini donuts, pronto puf, cheese curds, sweet marthas cookies, deep fried alligator(delicious), turkey leg. I think I’m gonna have to try the chocolate covered bacon which is new this year.

    Take care everyone!

They had the chocolate covered bacon last year at the Famous Dave’s place. Thick cut bacon dipped in chocolate, sprinkled with sea salt, and chilled.

I thought it was a bit much, but delicious for the first few bites!

It’s all pretty good, but that deep fried artery clog, I mean snickers on a stick is pretty good with a gallon of MILK.

    Pork, Beef & Chicken!

And not necessarily in that order.

You didn’t mean stuff that you had to eat at the fair did you?

We go about every 5 years, but mini donuts, corn dogs, cotton candy, taffy (they still have the stand that makes it while you watch?) and a large pretzel and mustard.
Maybe add watermelon on a stick too..:)

The Strawberry shakes in the dairy building are pretty good. Sweet Marthas cookies are great to grab on the way out. French Fries are a must too. Don’t know that I’ve ever been to the fair and not had a beer.

That Middle East Bakery gyro sandwich covered in the garlic lemon sauce stuff. Even better that the booth is located right inside the front gate so you don’t have to fight the crowds to get the heck out of there.

Not sure I ever had a beer out there, I think I just get put off paying crazy prices for beer.

    Gyro sounds good.

I could maybe choke down a mini donut, long ago, my dad worked for brockway glass, they had a company party at the MN zoo one year, and a mini donut wagon, free mini donuts all you could eat, this also happened to be the year my mother didn’t make it, and well my dad didnt watch us as close as our mom (we werent trouble makers anyways) needless to say, We both had our fill and then some of mini donuts, even still today, I’m leary of them, took my brother a good 5 years before he could eat them fine again, I’m still on the fence gotta be close to 25 years or so ago.

Not that being out fishing is a bad idea, it’s still fun to go out to the fair, my kids will have a blast.

Deep fried cheese curds and a beer. If I tipped over and died while eating them I would be a happy man. Now if they had a little tabasco to put on them.

Mini-donuts in the morning, and some cheesecurds, corn on the cob, and milk for lunch.

What is it? An egg with some scotch? Maybe if the egg was pickled.

There is a idea for someone. Pickled eggs on a stick. Even pickled pigs feet on a stick. I would bet good quality pigs feet would sell like crazy rite next to a 3.2 beer stand.

well at the Wisconsin State fair.. I must have a roast corn on the cob from the Lion’s club.. They constistantly have the biggest corn I have EVER Seen at THAT TIME OF THE YEAR.. always close to a foot or more long.. and very, very good..

but you can not.. CAN NOT go to the Wisconsin State fair without a CREAM PUFF.. the world’s FINEST.. by far..

biggest disappointment.. Last year on one of the forums some one was discussing the Italian sausage sandwiches.. So I made it a point to get one.. it was just an Italian brat.. and it wasn’t big.. or that flavorfull.

I certainly never would reccomend it as a to die for food.
it was just fair.. at best..

I have never been to the Minnesota state fair.. but I would like to hear from people who have been to both.. and to hear an honest comparison between the two..

a true story.. CNN wanted a story about all the “deep fried” foods at the fair one year.. so they flew a crew in from Atlanta to the “Illinois State Fair”.. and they went “live from the Illinois Fair, From West Alice… “

Where’s the love for some corn fritters and fried green tomatoes. Hard to beat those two items with honey butter and tobasco….blows the cheese curds out of the water. The cheese curds at Iowa and Wisconsin’s state fair are much better. Different vendor sells them at those two fairs rather than the greasy clumps you get at minnnesota.
