Garage Logic just finished an interview with one of the rescuers (sp)…and now with one of the people it happened to. Its an amazing story that they all will live to tell many times over, the moral of the story from his viewpoint is wear your life jacket and remain calm, it saved ever one of their lives!…….the gentleman just stated that the published story isn’t exactly as things happened, it’s close but not as he recalls, he just returned from picking up his boat and states…we were not over loaded, it was the end of our trip our gear was light, and our coolers were empty, but we were not overloaded.

Sounds like a freaky situation that went from bad to worse

Kudos to Tom Dougherty w/ Rainy Lake Houseboats for helping these guys out

I’ve been driving past the remains of 2 of the boats oustide the Brule Narrows the past couple days. The wind that day was BRUTAl with reported 7ft waves making travel ABSOLUTELY not safe in any smaller boats with nearly 20ft between the swells. Glad everyone made it home safely to talk about it, but if anyone ever gets into a situation like that you simply cannot navigate smaller boats in those conditions safely.

I was fishing near the Fox Islands on Saturday and things were getting interesting. I’d say the biggest waves were 3 feet with a wind of 20+ with higher gusts. A few rogue waves that may have pushed 4 feet but a guy has the tendancy to exagerate the height. We ducked into the inside channel at Harbor Island and had nice easy ride back. that’s until we hit Black Bay. Shallow water and high winds makes for some nasty waves in their own right. One other thing about a west wind on Rainy is that it stacks the waves even higher because it’s going against the current.

Just wondering if anyone has ever hear a boating accident victim say…

“Lucky we didn’t have our Life Jackets on”?
