We picked up a Glastron last week, on the trailer they had these little (6″x12″) swivel type bunks, maybe something for more support???? Anyway one of them flipped upright and put two small gouges into the bottom of the boat, pretty superficial but I would guess I should repair them. What is the best repair for this type of damage?

If the scrape is just in the gel coat and not down into the fiberglass, (Exposed fiberglass strands) you can just run it.

If you want to fix it, get the appropriate kit at a place like West Marine. http://www.westmarine.com/ Search on key word Fiberglass Repair Kit.

Also, do a search on Youtube for fiberglass repair. Lots of good how to vids out there.

    Good Luck,

Being your damage is on the underside of the boat I’m assuming it’s a solid color? If the bottom of your boat is a solid white color it’s very cheap to have fixed by a professional. I’ve had knicks and scrapes fixed in the white area on my boat for about $50-$100. Any damage in a colored or metal flake are will cost you much more.

There is a product called Marinetex that works very well for repairing chips in gelcoat. Do a search for it. Easy to use and gets hard as a rock when cured.

Thanks for the responses, there was actually another product there that I am going to try out (like Marine Tex). The gouge goes just a hair in to the glass but not enough IMO to do any glass repair to, very minimal. thanks again.
