    The steering cable went bad in my 1988 Lund Tyee. The boat has a 2005 Johnson 115. Any specific brands I should look at or places to buy one? I want to replace it myself to save some money. Almost any input is appreciated.

    thats easy, take your boat down to stubs marine and trade it in!!!! or we could duct tape cook to your motor and have him use his legs to steer while were out on pool 4. Oh by the way hes in your boat.

    They are not to bad to replace, just time consuming. Save your money and try to replace it yourself.

    I replaced my Telex cable in my 1987 Lund Renegade and it was super easy to run, but a little tricky to connect. I agree with the idea of taking pix before removing old cable. Also make SURE your new cable is the SAME LENGTH as your old one. Too short is an obvious problem, but too lond ain’t much better. You cannot just coil up the extra and connect it. I also agree witht the no feedback system. My 1987 would turn so easily that you had to keep both hands on the wheel at full throttle. The no feedback is much easier on the forearms.

    If your cable goes through some flotation foam, shove a length of PVC pipe that is just bigger than the cable max diameter through the hole first. Makes the new cable slide through real easy.

    @deertracker

    How’d this go for you? Did you end up getting the no feedback system?

    On the list of crap to do to my boat and getting mixed reviews on the no feedback. My motor really doesn’t have much torque now that the trim tab is set properly and Im starting to figure out the motor trim. It’s not that much of a price difference but curious to any opinions.

    This is something I’ve been putting off too. Mine will literally go rock solid below 20°F

    It’s been so long I can’t really remember. I don’t think I did. I’m pretty sure I went with the Safe-T QC system. The install was very easy. The only thing I did was put on the steering hub without reading the directions so my steering was backwards until I fixed it. It probably took me 30 minutes or less for the install.
