I am replacing my 12v Motor Guide Pro Series 30 with 37# thrust for my ’95 Tracker Nitro 160 with a used MK 24v Maxxum65. The battery wires on my MG look the same size as the MK(to me any way).
Any body have these trolling motor know what gauge size it is?
Am trying to save $100 from having to buy new wires and plug.

    Thanks.

You’re going to most likely be looking at size 8 AWG wire. Some might be 6, but I bet you’re looking at 8. Get your soldering skills up to date and make sure the connections are solid, that can be the trickiest part.

below is a Minn Kota chart, a 40# 12volt TM draws 42 amps, a 65# 24volt draws 40 amps. I’d imagine your MG 37# is going to be just about 40 amps, so there is no effective change in amp draw when you make the change. Like was mentioned, the heavier the wire, the better the system works (due to less voltage loss).

Bass,,,This is something you should NOT skimp on!

To small of a wire or a bad connection can cause a fire! Ive seen it happen more than once! (No kidding)

Minnkota told me it was “not needed at all to tin the ends” on my upgrade to a Terrova 101 earlier this year. But I did upgrade to #6 marine wiring as well as a new plug.

    Thanks guy.
according to the chart above I should be fine with the original wires(8awg). yeah 6awg would be ideal, but i could use that $100 for the new battery.
    hmm..

Not sure how far your batteries are from your bow mount TM, but it’s pretty easy to buy 6awg marine grade tinned cable for about a buck a foot online. Maybe put it on your Xmas list for a winter project.

OK. If I go ahead with the #6 wire and use a 50A Maxi Fuse Inline Fuse Holder w 8 AWG leads on the battery end(couldn’t find one with #6 leads). Using my old Motor Plug and Receptacle (2 #8 wires).
would this two short #8 wire be all right?

as long as you keep the #8 leads fairly short, you’ll be fine. As long as you’re using Maxi fuses, you may want to try a 40amp, which should do the job.
