What knots work well with lead core line? I have a new trolling reel on the way and plan on used it for lead core but I have zero experience with it. Any help would be appreaciated.

    Thanks

I’ve had good success with a Blood Knot.

Nail knot for me. No taking any lead out.

Willis knot will never hang up on the tip. Been running it for 2 years with no failures. Mille lacs, p4 and Superior.
I like the double Willis. -Mark

Albright knot is another good choice. I haven’t had very good success tying a Willis knot when using braid for leaders so I use the Albright.

Get 6″ or so of the lead out, put your mono line in, tie one overhand knot. It works great, that what some of the pro’s use.

I’ve used this knot and it works great. I usually only put the mono in 4″ but regardless it works fantastic and always holds.

I hope it is OK to reference this site. The authors of this article and the comments that followed – all did a great job at explaining the knot previously described, except they claim a double knot is even better. …Pics too! If it holds for Salmon, it will hold anything we’ve got to offer here in MN.

Single overhand with mono or fluoro but with superlines you will want the double overhand knots. That link explains it very well for those not familiar with how to tie this knot.

Tie the overhand knot first…then put the mono or Fireline in the sheath…then move the overhand knot down the line towards the sheath’s end and tighten. Best knot bar none!
