Any recomendations on digital cameras?

I’ve had a few Kodak C-series digital cameras and had been pleased with them. Month ago, I slipped off the rocks grabbing a chinook and took a swim. Camera didn’t survive the swim. I bought another Kodak and I’m not happy with it. Very difficult time focusing in low light and a lot of flash burn. It doesn’t balance out the flash with available light as well as my previous cameras. Looking to stay in the 100 to 150 range for a pocket camera.
    Your thoughts?

    Randy,

I’ve been using a Cannon Sx110 as my cheap, bang around, hunting and fishing camera and had many semi-pro camera friends comment on how nicely it does. It’s very durable as I’ve dropped it and laid on it many times on hunting trips and it just keeps on working.

It’s a little above the price range you’ve stated. But I think it’s worth it.

Randy, Wades camera does indeed take some great pics.

I had a Nikon cool pix with the wide angle lens that was great for a pocket camera. I belive it is in the range you are looking for.

However, I wouldn’t expect it to survive being closed in the tailgate of a truck if I were you. That was a real bummer. -Mark

get a canon. you can get a decent elph in that price range.
i have owned 3 canons to date, currently i have a sd780 (~$200). it takes great photos, its super easy to use, and the LCD is huge, and its almost the same size as my alias2 flip phone.

given your max price range, i’d look at the A-series — not as feature heavy, and they take AA batts which makes finding power easy.

I just bought a Fujifilm Finepix XP10. Water proof to 10 feet, dust proof, drop proof to about 4 feet and freeze proof within reasonable limits. I have taken only a few pics so far and have a ways to go, but takes pics and movies and you can buy memory for it out the roof. Price is just right at $149. If you can wait a bit, I will know a lot more in a week.

X 2 on the Cannon recommendation. I have the A1000. Very pleased with it. I really like having a camera that uses the AA batteries. I believe I paid less than 150.00 for it a year ago.

Pentax Optio W90 is what I bought a few months ago. I am overall pleased with it (as far non-SLR’s go), but I did note some downsides…

    http://www.amazon.com/Pentax-W90-Waterproof-Pistachio-Green/dp/B0039237H4/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1280327881&sr=8-2

    downsides
    – more $$ than your price range
    – video says its 720p, but the lighting in the video is not great, at least in lowlight conditions as well as very bright conditions.
    – zoom during movie mode is not optical (digital only)

    upsides
    -compact
-can get a floating lanyard for it.
    -waterproof, shockproof, freezproof
-underwater video mode is WAAAAY cool, and does a great job. (I’ll see if I can get some Michigan salmon underwater vids)
    -outdoor pics are fantastic.
    -flash is good
-TONS of options and extras (ex, time lapse photgraphy/movies)

SHOULD NOT BREAK IF IT GOES FOR A SWIM.

Underwater videos… (note, sediment/bottom silt was stirred up – not the camera’s fault)

Otherwise look at Panasonic TS2 for a waterproof camera…. I heard good things about that one (better video and possibly pics than the Optio W90)

X2 on SX110.Just a little big in a pocket, but well worth it.Takes excellent pics. With pretty big ”mitts”I like the little larger size.Near $300 when they came out, down below $200 now.The new waterproof ones look nice but the price needs to come down a little for me.Couple years they should be cheaper with more features.

Take the Kodak back and exchange it. I was looking for a camera under $100 because I was tired of my old Fuji, it was a battery hog. I found a C-160 on craigslist really cheep (it had a bad scratch on the view screen) and found I could get a new one for less than $100 at Walley World. By the time I got there all they had left was the display model. I ended up buying a C-140 that day and got everything batteries, memory, insurance all for $96. I have only got a few pictures with flash burn.
