In talking with a lot of different fisherman this summer. I’m getting the impression that people use the term RIGGING differently. So for the purposes of specificity. What does everyone mean when they say RIGGING? What’s your impression of the term?

“Lindy Rigging”. Pulling a slip sinker with a long leader and live bait.

Any time I am not anchored or under motor power fishing (trolling)… I am rigging. It can be Lindy’s, pulling blades or even drift bobber fishing, always with live bait.

To me rigging is a very general term.

    Example.
    Bottom rig

    Lindy rig

    Bobber Rig

    Down rig

THere are many more so to me rigging is what rig you put on. A replacement word for setup?

Hence my problem when someone says they are “rigging”. Carolina Rig, Miller Rig, Lindy Rig, bottom bouncing live bait, 3 way live bait rig, etc.

To resolve your issue ,when someone says “rigging” ask them to explain what style rigging they were using

When us WC Illinoisers say rigging, we are talking about fishing livebait on the bottom with 3-ways or Lindy-type rigs.
As for other “rigging” methods, we refer to them specifically – like we was pullin’ bouncers, fishin’ slip bobbers, usen’ miller rigs, etc.
Of course, some people think we talk funny down here, too.

I understand that.. but if you were “fishin slip bobbers” what if you were not anchored, but drifting ? Then I would say I was “riggin” slip bobbers. Typically, if I tell someone my technique, I am more specific, such as riggin Lindys, or riggin blades The riggin to me means not anchored, not trolling, not cast & retrieve and using live bait, typically a leech or crawler But thats just me

I’ve never heard anyone call bobber fishing or pulling blades rigging…

Rigging to almost anyone I converse with, is fishing livebait with a splits hot or slip sinker above the bait.

But that’s just me and everyone else I’ve talked to

I guess I will say riggin livebait or riggin plastics. So I agree something more than riggin should be said when describing you tactic.

Come on Big G… we all know the Mille Lacs jargon for bobber fishing is corking.

rigging, lindy, core, lead, blades, spinners, raps, long lining, 3-way, snaps, copper, dipsies, riggers(down), Dabque, dork, slippin, slip trolling, power corkin, boards, planers, draggin,

I give up, way too many slang terms by region. I do hear the confusion and experience it too at times.

I use a split shot in my bobber rig above the bait You need to hang around me Joe People say they are “rigging” the sand constantly… now there are many ways that I have seen it done, including Lindys, Blades and Bobbers…. BTW Corkin’ is anchored See, he is right, defining it is impossible. Again my definition quite simply is…. not anchored, not under motor power(trolling) and not casting/retrieving…..using live bait. I am talented enough to meet all these criteria with lindys, blades and even bobbers

To me rigging is pulling bait along with a slip sinker, swivel, leader etc… When I cast this same setup at a wing dam from an anchored position, I refer to it as casting a live bait rig as opposed to rigging the tips of the wing dams.

I use rigging to signify that I’m physically moving with this live bait set up (even if it’s just a split shot instead of a slip sinker). I do not refer to running bottom bouncers, harnesses or three ways as rigging. They each have their own purposes and times.

    Agreed.

Now, if a person were bobber fishing and they forgot to reel the line before moving to a new spot , would that be corkin or riggin?

    Rigging is not jigging.

    What about board rigging?
