First Time, But Probably Not The Last.

Sunk a treble hook into my figure for the first time on Saturday. After trying to pull it out myself with no success had to make a trip to the ER. I was in and out of the Fergus Falls Hospital in 30 minutes, Great Place. They numbed my finger, wrapped a string around the hook and yanked it right out. Doctor said she pulls them out like she pulls out baby teeth lol, well now I know how to do it in the future.

They also have a life size poster of a fisherman, they give you a sticker to place on the spot you were hooked. I guess I feel better knowing I didn’t get hooked in some of the other places I saw on the poster.

Two trips to the emergency room have me bending all the barbs I can down, all my Musky and northern stuff is barbless and more and more of my other tackle is becoming that way.

Luckily neither were hooks stuck in me, but it still smarts to see it.

Good to see it was nothing serious.

Looking at pictures of hooks stuck in people makes me ill. I just thank god that in 27 years of fishing it’s never been me. Now that I’ve said this tonight I’ll end up with a 10/0 stuck in my

Nuts! I would have loved to pull that sucker out for you!!

Since hanging around Everts I’m getting pretty good at taking out hooks in others…doesn’t even hurt me anymore.

I’ve pulled a few out of my hands on my own, I even cut one out of my inner thigh! Being hooked like you were at the end of the finger would be tough to get out on your own.

I had someone fish hooked my finger on the cast, but she also hit me with the rod. Lucky the hook point went straight into my knuckle bone part and the barb didn’t get poked through. That hurt bad, but better than having the barb go through.

Everybody should learn how to pop them out with line, and carry a small bolt cutters in your boat. I had two guys come up to me about a month ago in their boat. One guy had a rattle trap stuck in his ear lobe.

We had to force the last barb through and cut the hooks. I told him it wouldnt’ve been soon bad if his buddy would’ve stopped jerking the rod thinking his bait was stuck in a tree.

The $7 it costs for the bolt cutters is well worth it.

While I agree, the situation should be carfully assessed. Anytime you even think the hook is in a tendon, I’d leave it to a Dr to remove. If you are SURE it’s just in the meat, go for it!

I once put a fly right through my ear lobe. The emergency room guy asked if I wanted to keep it for an ear ring. I declined.
