Am thinking about looking at a 96 Competitor 170 with a 50 Mariner 4stroke tiller of the same year. Anyone have any experience with a setup like this. Opinions appreciated. Thanks.

    Wally,
A friend of mine runs a 97′ competitor tiller with a 60hp merc.I have fished out of that boat numerous times,it is a great boat and has alot of features that you would probably like.Especially the rear baitwell! It is a heavier boat so the 50hp might not give you top performance(It is rated for 60hp max.)But if you don’t load it up to much I think it will be fine.If I could I would pick one up in a heartbeat!Hope this helps!

Thanks for the reply JJ.It does look like a nice layout inside. One thing that I was wondering about is the stability of the boat. It isn’t real wide [79″] does it feel stable when your moving around in it. Thanks again

I had a ’93 of the same model with a 60 Evinrude 2-stoke, at first had a 40. The 40 was only good if it was just me in the boat. Was very stable and a great boat to fish out of. I now have an ’03 Tournament Pro.
