Welcome to IDO Capt Rick Hiott. Most all of us live in the midwest and don’t have salt water close, but a few make trips. Just this late winter or early spring one of the people from here went to (I think) South Carolina to do some surf fishing. And last month Kooty went to Alaska, but as you stated we mostly fresh water fish.
I really look forward to some of your posts and I am sure several others will too. What are those big white fish?

    Welcome to IDO Captain Rick!

Nice Reds. Our rivers up here hold a fresh water cousin to the Redffish, locally called a Sheepshead. They don’t run as big as the Reds though.

Oh, and your fishing buddies are a lot better looking than mine

Ha-Ha-Ha,,,,Thanks for the welcome guys. The fish in the picture is called a “Red Drum” some people call them “Reds” or “RedFish”

I have a TON of pictures. I do a lot of photography.

Here is a 29lb King Mackerel that my buddy caught in a tournament a couple weeks ago. We won first place King and second place Spanish Mackerel.

This is a saltwater Trout. They are pretty!

Here is a smaller red drum

    This is a “Bonnethead” Shark.

I also photograph lures for a buddy of mine who makes custom marlin lures.

    This is called a Cobia.

    This is another trout.

Its been awhile since I’ve seen bull reds that size. I used to fish both reds and specks (sea trout) in texas. I know when both are running its a total blast with worn out arms and wrists. The specs in texas usually ran when the waters got cooler, is it the same in S.C.? When do the reds usually run or can you fish them all year in the deeper water off shore. Welcome to the site and keep the pictures coming!

Looks like some of those Marlin lures could be used in a smaller version for bass!

The colors on those Marlin lures really come to life in those pictures. They are so vibrant. What tools of the are you using for the photos?

Thanks for sharing and welcome to IDO.

MossyDan asked,,,,”When do the reds usually run or can you fish them all year in the deeper water off shore”?

Dan, The giant red drum show up in June and are here all summer. They spawn in Sept-Oct and then spend the winter offshore. The smaller fish stay inshore in the shallow water all winter.

Here are a few giant ones for ya.

Now those are some bull reds, We used to get them on Johnson silver and gold minnows and occasionally on tout tails, they resemble the rear half of a large shrimp, the tout tails are good for specs. Even the small 5 lb. reds pull like you wouldn’t believe. For taste its hard to beat redfish, very good.

Welcome Capt. Rick. I love saltwater fishing, unfortunately there isn’t much saltwater up here.

I can say I’m envious though. Saltwater species provide a fight like nothing we have up here. Sturgeon and Salmon are the closest thing we have that can almost compare.

    Awesome pictures by the way.

You asked,,”Do you have any pics from ICE fishing season”?

I have lived in Charleston all my life and the lowest the water temp has been that I can remember is 47.
We did have 4-6″ of snow this past winter. That’s about it.

If you ever see me “Ice” fishin,,,,Take me to the hospital because something is wrong with me!
