Do you support Arizona’s tough new law on illegal immigration?.In July, Arizona will begin enforcing a new law that requires law enforcement officers to check someone’s immigration status if they have reason to suspect that he or she is in the country illegally. Do you think this is a good idea?

Arizona’s tough new law

While I think it is a HUGE step in the right direction…it might be too much too fast. I applaud Arizona and it’s gov’t for doing something though to address illegal immigrants… I am tired of hearing how they are great people…just trying to feed their family (so is a bank robber) while they may be, first and foremost they are criminals, just by being here. Arizona had enough with waiting around for the Fed’s to do something….very few illegals in Washington DC I suppose… but it sure got the Fed’s moving now !!!

July 9, 2010 at 2:29 am #885503the ? is misleading, it is not the wording of the law in Arizona. They must have another reason to stop them, they ask for my identity every time they stop me. The new law is no different for them!!!!!
July 9, 2010 at 2:34 am #885505And it is Arizona enforcing existing federal laws. It isn’t Arizona getting tougher. The Obama administration going after Arizona is ludicrous. Doesn’t surprise me one bit.

July 9, 2010 at 4:03 am #885525I think we as a country need to do something to curb this problem. The people south of the boarder come and take jobs no matter what the wage or the job and that drives wages down because they will work for little or nothing and so on. Then they have a baby here and then they have it made welfare and section 8 housing and all that great stuff.. Its to bad we didn’t have this law when Obama came here to live…
July 9, 2010 at 4:15 am #885534Absolutely. With 95% supporting this (at least in this survey), makes you wonder why the Feds/dems are sueing to stop this.
July 9, 2010 at 6:33 am #885548Holy crap… did you look at the numbers in that poll?
Roughly, 2 million for, 100,000 against!
And California boycotted AZ businesses over it. Apparently, until AZ repeals the law no CA government agency can contract with any vendor in AZ. What a bunch of lunacy.
July 9, 2010 at 6:52 am #885553Arizona should pull Californias power plug….Take away those liberal [censored]’ Air conditioning and see what they have to say when they spend a little time out of the office and on the street meeting a few of those “poor Mexican Souls”.

July 9, 2010 at 11:31 am #885568And good for Arizona for standing up for the rule of law. This country needs more states that don’t see everything in fuzzy shades of grey.

I almost forgot to mention that MSNBC isn’t exactly where angry white males hang on the internet. So that poll means that your ordinary average citizen is almost completely behind AZ on this one.
July 9, 2010 at 12:21 pm #885579Yeah, but all us angry white males, frequent sites that have links to it….
BTW… what exactly do you carry to prove your citizenship ??? A SSN card ? Passport ? I have always heard about the Green Card, but I don’t have one Uh oh………better steer clear of Zona

July 9, 2010 at 12:21 pm #885580I read a very interesting article on this earlier in the week…
– Illegal Immigrants cost our country’s legal tax-paying citizens 113 billion annually
– 43% of food stamps are given to illegals
– 41% of illegals are on welfare
– 50% of all gang members are illegalsDidn’t have time to fact check but the study was originally published on Foxnews so while it may come from a right wing source they’re big enough to have had to do their homework…
Don HansonPosts: 2073July 9, 2010 at 12:47 pm #885587I heard that the black panthers are going down to patrol the border.
July 9, 2010 at 1:17 pm #885600I guess I can understand where Obama is coming from… got to be pretty embarrassing to be president of the United States… but can’t campaign in Arizona anymore for fear of being deported himself.

July 9, 2010 at 2:30 pm #885625The Arizona law is bad because it doesnt really do anything and little will come out of it once it is enacted. But I understand their frustration and wanting to do something to address the problems.
The Federal lawsuit is completely ridiculous. A reporter yesterday hit the nail on the head when she asked Gibbs (Press Secretary) if the Feds were going to sue San Franscisco, Los Angeles and several other “sanctuary cities”. For many years, these cities have said that they are not going to inforce Federal immigration laws.
They are suing AZ because their law MIGHT usurp Federal law. But they are igoring cities who publically state that they WILL and ARE not enforcing Federal law.
You cant just enforce laws when you find it beneficial politically.
July 9, 2010 at 2:40 pm #885628Hey Dave! I think that the AZ law is sending a message more than anything. Unfortunately, Obama is sending the exact opposite message.
The biggest thing that has slowed illegal immigration since the 08 election is the economy tanking. Now watch the feds claim it is due to “get tough” policies (if they haven’t already done that). Man I love living in a Western European style socialist democracy.

July 9, 2010 at 2:54 pm #885638I think Arizona anticipated the law suit when they wrote the bill. I’m sure they crossed their T’s and dotted their i’s on the whole situation. My guess is that if this DOES get struck down, it will give Arizona grounds to sue the Federal government for the cost of supporting illegals, which is $2.569 billion dollars a year(2009). That will be passed on to each and every one of us. And when Arizona is successful every other state that has an issue will follow suit.
“How’s that hopey-changy thing workin’ out for ya?”
July 9, 2010 at 3:38 pm #885655The Feds cannot be sued JIm….
Besides, any extra Fed money is going to NASA to help them improve relations with the Muslims last time I read the paper…a1aPosts: 471July 9, 2010 at 4:21 pm #885670No comment due to the fact that I once got kicked off here for starting a political post. I’m running out of new user names!
Nonetheless, the more I witness the present administration and the direction of our once great country the more I understand what my Granny meant when she always use to say “Jesus Come Quick!”

Annnnnnnnnnnnd………………..we are all here….
July 9, 2010 at 5:25 pm #885687Here is another question, just who gets to decide which laws we are going to enforce…
Can I decide not to pay my taxes because I consider them unjust ?
We seem to be the only country in the world that is demonized for enforcing our current immigration laws.
If these laws are so bad, then the congress is responsible for passing a new law and the president is responsible for enforcing it once passed. At least the last time I checked how our republic is suppose to work that is….
July 9, 2010 at 6:05 pm #885697G Are you waiting for me to respond or did you like that post so much you qouted it twice?

yote_tamerPosts: 29July 10, 2010 at 12:22 pm #885800If illegals were sent to prison for 2 or 3 years and then deported, most of them would not come back. There is really no deterrent for them right now.

Californa
One good Earth quake away from a 49 state Union.
Sorry!!!!
Only if we could trim a few selected states from each coast
we could have a central minded Government…
