If you want the captains side, here it is.
The guy who yelled at you off the end of the boat was not the captain. I was the captain of that boat Saturday night, and as I came to anchor up on the spot, a boat was trolling down the reef, far enough away for me to not know exactly which way he was going. As the anchor was dropped, I put the boat into neutral as soon as I could to wait for the other boat to go by, instead of them proceeding to keep going, they stalled behind us almost causing a collision. . As a large launch boat, we use a lot of anchor rope, we can not read anyones mind who is trolling those reefs, so next time you get cut off, instead of driving staight at the other boat who accidentally cuts you off, go around them.
I appoligize for this situation. I have spent many hours on Mille Lacs on that boat and have never come across anyone who acted in the way that you did. As soon as I noticed you coming at our boat, I went into neutral to prevent a collision, it would have been nice if you could have done something to prevent it as well.-Randee Walters
I appreciate the apology….sort of. Who was the guy who ran to the back of the boat screaming for us to “Get the f*** out of here?” Was he working on the boat?
Keep in mind Randee that we did not stall as you said. We maintained our trolling speed. Appreciate that other boats also cannot read a boat launch captains mind and know that they are going to drop anchor and power reverse into us. I am sure you would not appreciate another boat pulling in front of you while you are under power and dropping anchor.
Good luck on the rest of your season.
Same resort launch pulled a good one on me 3 weeks ago. I’m anchored on Banana Reef and he cruises within 20 ft of me at half throttle. Huge wake splashes at least 15 gallons of water in the boat, If I’d been in a 14 footer he’d of swamped me! Then he does a quick turnaround and drops anchor. Nice move Randy-I guess if I knew you owned the lake I would of gotten out of your way.
thanks for both sides of the story, and welcome to the site. I’m sure Randee has a few stories to tell regarding boats following him around and piling on to the spot he is trying to fish, so lets be easy on him. Although there is no excuse for some foul language, there could be kids on board.
