Hey guys I just bought some cabelas gore tex guide wear. How do you wash it? Can you put it in the washer and if so what setting? This stuff is so dang expensive to ruin.
Ahh….Wash it? Just hang it on the swingset for a day or two and let the fish slime set in. I’ve had mine for 2 plus years and have not let it near soap. I’m afraid to wash it in fear that it will start letting water in.
***NOTE*** If you leave the zippers open it will let water in no matter how clean, or dry it is to start your day on the water.
Joking aside, I’ve never washed mine and it works perfectly, and has that nice, “fished in” smell to it.
I reluctantly washed mine after I somehow got a bunch of grease on them. Grangers kit was what I used, it was from Cabelas, I found it right by the rain gear. I will say it worked well, and the seal spray had helped the the shell to repel water again. It is a black box with 2 bottles inside. $20. But I am with CC, don’t if you don’t have to. -Mark
You can wash it just make sure you use soap designed for gore tex. Gore tex doesn’t stand up to chemicals very well. If you use the wrong soap, you may damage the membrane and it will not work. Or, you can also glog the pores in the gore tex. It would still be waterproof in this case, but it would no longer be breathable.
There should be wash instructions stitched in the jacket. I know that Gore recommends their products be laundered with soap and water but NEVER use fabric softener.
Well thanks for that response. So where in the jacket are they stitched? I looked and am not finding it but proablly just over looked it.
I don’t have guide wear but have had ice armour and now have sno suit. My sno suit is put away for the summer but I am reasonably sure that the lable says hand wash in cold water and use mild detergent.
Look at the back side of the label in the colar of your jacket or the bibs for the instructions. Heck you might even try calling Cabelas for the info…
Wash in warm water, no fabric softner or bleach. Tumble Dry. Reapply a DWR after a few washes. You can reactivate the DWR between applications by tumbling in dryer on low/medium heat.
