We went to Green Mill today in Winona..and while the pizza tasted exceptional, I WANT A FULL PIZZA for the $30 that I spent, and not a kid’s size pizza.. We ate at Girodellia’s in Chicago and Orlando.. and Manucci’s had a full Chicago pizza as well. so I know from what I am speaking about..

some one tell me where to get Chicago style pizza between LaCrosse and say even Red Wing.. a FULL PIZZA and not some 12 inch kid’s size pizza..

and this is not a “complaint.. ” the food tasted excellent.. some one just forgot what size and value really is..

Have you tried Reds Savoy? Don’t know how close they have one to Red Wing. I also don’t know how their deep dish is either. Their regular pizza is as thick as most deep dish pizzas though. They make an awesome pizza.

Rat, I can’t help with LaX pizza places – but I know your pain. That is the ONLY thing I miss from when lived in Racine. Racine & Kenosha by far has the best concentration of awesome ethnic restaurants. Knowing a lot of the owners didn’t hurt much Now you have me thinking about a party size pie from Wells Brothers, DeRango’s, Infasinios, …………….

For the real deal, you can get Lou Malnatis shipped. The pizzas are smaller, but they’re thick and super authentic. I spend a lot of time down in Chicago for work and I think Lous is the best.

I use to work there when I was in high school! IMO, there is no better thin crust pizza on the planet. Man, I miss that town for no other reasons than the great restaurants. Pia’s on Taylor for thick crust was another one of my favorites. I took my buddy down there last year for the “Tour of Gluttony” which started at Chic-Fil-A, then he saw white castle so we had to stop and get a few sliders, from there we went to Wells Brothers to split a pizza, then hit up LaTapatia for the best damn tacos EVER. He saw online that Tacos Elray was good so we stopped there afterwards for a couple of tacos and at that point we were too stuffed to enjoy a Gyro or a Kewpee burger. I did manage to stop and pick up a couple of kringles though

Tour of Gluttony v2.5 is coming up soon.

as a transplant from the suburbs in chicago- lou malnati’s is the best shipped pizza, but not worth the money. We make all of our pizzas from scratch (elk river is not a pizza paradise)- thin, pan (double dough) to pan..the closet pizza to deep dish up here is from frankies– if in the metro it will pass. GOOD LUCK in the pizza quest– the food is the only thing I miss….

Rocky Rocco’s in La Crosse used to have a great Chicago style pizza. Go to the downtown location.

Luigi’s in River Falls, WI has a very good deep dish and one heck of a great calzone. My information is about 10 years old, but I doubt things have changed much.

    Rat:

In my opinion, the best pizza in the area is at the Roadhouse down by Desoto. They have a deep dish, not sure if it is Chicago style completely, but is is damn good, and if you order the biggest one, it is BIG.

I’m sure I’ll be headed down to Chicago in the next week or two. I can bring you back some Lous as well. I’ll occasionally grab one or two to bring home. Then you don’t have a delivery fee.

Well, if it’s a lot of pizzas there may be a 1 crankbait delivery fee.

Let me know, I’d be happy to grab some for you.

Mike, good deep dish done right is hard to find. But when you find a great place it is a nice change up from thin crust and I love thin crust.
