Ok, now that the h2oc isn’t being made anymore, what the next best thing? I’ve heard about the Endura? I need a new handheld, what should I look at?

I have a garmin and an H20c and the garmin is a much better unit. I use to be a big lowrance guy, now I’m making the move to Humminbird for a lot of reasons.

I use to carry the garmin around in my 5 gallon ice fishing bucket and the screen never scratched, the H20 scratches if you get too close to it.

What other handhelds accept the lake map chips? Without accepting the chips, I find the handhelds to be marginally worthwhile to carry at best.

Here’s a list of all units compatible with Lakemaster chips.

You should be able to quickly cross reference any unit from the major manufacturers and find out if there’s a compatibility issue or not.

Anybody use a Garmin Colorado? Seems to be just what I need.

Brian I recently purchased the Oregon 450 and I did a lot of research before I purchased it. The cost was $340 plus $6.53 for shipping and a couple days ago I received my $50 rebate. The Oregon is a much nicer hand held then the Colorado. And the 450 rocks as far as I am concerned. With the Colorado you can save 1000 waypoints and 50 routes, the Oregon can save 2000 waypoints and 200 routes. The Colorado has been discontinued. The Colorado has a rocker switch to pan the map or move the curser. The Oregon is touch screen.

There are so many options that are better on the Oregon than the Colorado not to mention the ones that are available on the Oregon that are not on the Colorado.

The difference between the Oregon 450 and 550 is that the 550 has a 3.2 megapixel camera built into the unit and it will remember the coordinance of where you took the picture.

    Oregon 550

Remember when you have a Garmin and want to get software you need to make sure it was made for Garmin units.

I forgot to mention the rebate program ends Sunday, so if you want to get the rebate you will need.

    1. A receipt and the envelope needs to be postmarked by 6/20/2010
    2. The rebate form filled out (I have it in PDF format and can email it if you cannot find it.)
    3. The UPC barcode from the bottom of the box

i just saw this post. why is there no more H2o’s being made? i love my unit. why would they just pull the plug? did somebody eat one and die? there would be no reason for this.

yes there are other units out there, but to just pull the plug on faithful users? i dont think i’ll be buying anything they make anytime soon. it really ticks me off.

    just my 2 cents worth

I have a Garmin 76cs model before it accepted a chip and LOVE it. It would easily be another Garmin decision again for me accept for one thing that bothers me with the old model and I believe still applies with the newer models……the chip has to be a Garmin Lakemaster chip. I would not be able to take the Lakemaster chip that I use in my Lowrance or bird unit and place it in the Garmin Handheld.

If this is not the case, please someone correct me as my 76cs is on it’s last legs (my own fault )

Also, if the new Garmin Lakemaster chips are like previous Garmin Lakemaster software, it can only be used in two Garmin units. Afterwards requires another $75 to register an additional unit. Hopefully this is no longer the case with the introduction of the chip.
