I hope everyone and their families are alright up there, saw some pretty nasty shots from up that way and the radar is lit up with red… Prayers for all of you up there.

Trying to post a radar pick from my HDS10, hopefully it works. So far I really like the Sirius radar, it can really save your a** on a night like this.

Doesn’t sound good for the people up that way. It was nasty here in Byron and my girls are still curled up and sleeping on the couch downstairs, but it wasn’t anything as bad as up towards Wadena. Sounds like two fatalities up near Wadena.
June 18, 2010 at 10:31 pm #881219After looking at some reports, Wadena has 232 homes that have suffered damage if not totally destroyed. Their are some videos that show the tornado on youtube. My prayers are sent.
June 19, 2010 at 1:44 am #881238I am part of the local Salvation Army EDS team. Went in last evening at 6pm and stayed until midnight. Went back in this morning at 6:30 and left at 4:30. Same tomorrow.
In the SC area most of the damage was rural. Not that it’s good, but the twisters missed most of the populated areas. 28 touchdowns in Freeborn County (Albert Lea). Allot of farms are gone. One death, 13 injury’s. Will be a busy week ahead.
June 21, 2010 at 3:39 am #881498Rochester also had a tornado touch down but no where near the damage in Wadena. Menards in norht lost part of its roof I am waiting for the pics when I get them I will post them here. Here are some pics of houses behind Carlos O’Kelly’s.

Todays outlook:
Looking at the graphs at the Storm Prediction Center it looks very similar to last week. If you go to the link it will break down % chance by severe weather type (tornadoes, hail and wind). Only it is a bigger area and arching north, instead of to the east.
I don’t follow the weather news close enough to know if that was a record setting outbreak for Minnesota? What was the final tally? 30ish?
I see a preliminary of 18 reported after investigation through June 21.
June 22, 2010 at 6:06 pm #881977I’ll have my Skywarn Storm Spotter hat on tonight..Could get ugly nasty.

I’ve always wanted to do that, but I just don’t have the time. Maybe when my life gets less hectic.June 22, 2010 at 7:34 pm #882023Quote:

It’s only a 2 hour course. I did it 7 years ago and went again this spring as a refresher. Take a look around your community in early march and april. There will be a class offered somewhere. From there you get a phone number and a code to call if you’re seeing wall clouds, funnel clouds, hail, straightline winds, tornados etc.. It’s worth doing for sure. Most people don’t know what a wall cloud is or what causes it.
June 22, 2010 at 7:55 pm #882034I think you may have given me info before. I know someone pointed me to the courses online somewhere, but I am not sure if it was this board.
I have studied severe weather as a hobby and it is a pet peeve of mine when people misread cloud formations or the weather. One of the biggest for me is when they see a storm and when wondering if it is headed their way, they will determine it by the wind direction.
June 22, 2010 at 8:01 pm #882036Wind Direction. Exactly. I was on BlackDuck this week and I was watching a storm run about 10 miles west for 2 hours. It was running from the south to the north and I was fine the whole time. Within minutes I noticed the wind direction change and begin to blow right into the storm! Well, I knew it wasn’t blowing that way, it was being SUCKED that way. I got the heck out of there and lucky I did. I think most guys woulda got caught in that one.
