Going to visit the girlfriend in Rockford in a couple of weeks. We both have WI licenses. Wondering what the opportunities are on the So WI border area…

    I’ve got a canoe and an 18’er…

Geneva or Delavan, but not in the canoe.

I would suggest Koshkonong on the Rock River-
Full of Walleye. Pull cranks on boards.
Flicker shads pulled at and above the bottom.

There are fish to be caught at yellowstone but not in the canoe. The locals race around this lake like you wouldnt believe. The water quality is always green to brown and anything than desirable. I wouldnt waste your time going there in my opinion.

you can do the Madison Chain (about an hour north of Rockford) in a canoe by staying on the Yahara River. Lower Mud Lake between Waubesa and Kegonsa might be a good option too since its all slow no wake and doesnt get much pressure.

Delavan and Geneva are great fisheries. Geneva has a ton of pleasure traffic all of the time, and even with little wind I’ve been rocked in my 19 footer. Delavan isn’t as bad, especially during the week, but both lakes can get rough quick with 15+ mph south/southwest winds, so unless you’re canoeing early I wouldn’t recommend either. I haven’t fished Lake Como as much but if you’re looking for less traffic and waves, this lake may be a better fit for you. All 3 have good fishing, Geneva is a bass factory with monster gills, and Delavan has trophy bass & pike, with good sized panfish. Como has decent sizes of all 3, but not nearly the quality or quantity.

    Good luck & tight lines

Head to Eagleville Wi. Location Page 30 B/2 in the WI Gazetter. Put the canoe in on Eagle Spring Lake off of County Rd LO. From here you can canoe across this lake heading south and take the creek down to Lulu Lake. It is a beautiful trip. Expect to see all kinds of Ducks, Swans and Geese heading to Lulu. Good bass and Pike fishing along the way but if it was me. Once I got into Lulu Lake I would be looking for the dinner plate sized gills the lake produces. Depending on water temps, in a couple of weeks these bruisers might be suspended in water that is 30 feet deep. The warmer the water the deeper they will hang. Starting 10-12feet below a bobber is always a good starting point
Make sure to check the bag limit for this lake. I believe it might be 10 gills now but, they will be 10 biggun’s.

Enjoy you trip wherever it might land you

havent fished yellowstone for a few years but back then after 9-10 oclock the lake was unfishable as it is not very big and after 1-2 joyriders fireup it’s pretty rough, back then they had a no wake section roped off but most of it was very shallow and we never caught a fish there, blackhawk and gov. dodge would be options but may be too far from the border for you

Looks like we are headed to Devil’s Lake SP for some trout fishing. Hope I can find a trolling motor to borrow!!
